Re: Something New - PAINT
We just tried metalcast this weekend. That stuff is amazing. :) Super forgiving. My son painted most of car, with a little touch up from me. One time I thought the car was dry. It was to the touch , but not to pick up. Big ole finger prints from dad. We sprayed one more coat on and bravo, fi...

Re: So, what does your username mean?
I was inspired by Racer X. I always loved the cartoon Speedracer as a kid. I used to pretend that I was Speed. My bed was Speed's car, the Mach 1. I chose spelling it with out the E, because I figured some one else already had it. PWD brings me back to being a kid again.

Re: What car would you most like to see in a derby?
That's an easy one. The Mach 5 of course. My car that ran in the adult race was called Mach 5. It was a rail car. Other than being white and having a M5 on it, no resemblance. Maybe next year, I'll try make it more like the original.

Re: District event who do you invite?
Our pack sends the the top 3 in each of the 6 age groups. Potentially 18 boys from our pack go. The district has 10 packs. A possible 180 boys racing. Last year they ran two tracks. One track did tiger, bobcat and wolves. The other track did the older boys. For our pack it seems to be just the right ...

Re: Just finished our first race... THANK YOU to everyone!!
I’m bit of a “researchaholic”, and my Son and I gleaned tons of great ideas from here on DerbyTalk! He worked countless hours on his car, and for him to see all of our efforts rewarded was a great lesson, and simply a wonderful father/son experience. After reading your post, I found it a very simil...

Re: Another thank you!!
We just run the track directly on the ground and do not suspend. Is the floor too rough to just run directly on the floor? With the track suspended in the air it must be tough for the scouts to get up high enough to start their cars. Maybe part of the derby is for the kids to be able to sucessfully...

Re: Another thank you!!
Yikes if any of those cars get fast enough to take a dive off the end of that stop section  Even with a Best Track stop section, I have seen cars go off the end. That is why I always put some last gap stop mechanism at the end (usually a jacket or towel). You are right. The cars can come off...

Re: Another thank you!!
Please consider ideas to resolve that problem and as a minimum add to your check-in procedure a requirement that a car must travel from the start and cross the finish line before being accepted. If it doesn't, it can be fixed before racing without upsetting the 'little league' dads. I kind of did t...

Another thank you!!
I just want to thank everyone in this forum. We have used many of your ideas and theories with great success. Last year my son won his Tiger div. and won pack overall(never lost a race). About 90 cars in all. He later went on to get 2nd at the districts for tigers. That was our first year building a...
