We caught it immediately.. Incredibly, the *&%#$% guy running the race refused to change the results! I still have dirt on my chin from my jaw hitting the floor.

Successful language humanizes the need and involves the potential donor. For example- "Please help these kids make it across the finish line" or "You can help a child learn about the value of effort and the great satisfaction of seeing his or her work roll toward that finish line"...
