Re: A different race format?

Totally rely on the electronics = yes but any computerized system does the same Who races who = dosn't matter. winner in each division is determined by fastest et. remember the start gates are independent of each other when the timer is triggered so a slow start gate does not have anything to do wit...

A different race format?

We just held our local race on Friday nite using a different race format. Have 2 lane track with 2 independent timers. Each timer has its own triggering switch (car one can leave first and car 2 can leave X time later and both cars can have the same E.T.) NOTE the starting gate is electric and if de...

Re: Help with a craftsman 10" band saw.

If the wheels have groves then you need to replace the tires and / or wheels. The tires should be smooth no groves. The set on the blades could be a problem but correct the obvious first =the tires. If the wheels are aligned then the tires would be my next correction. On blades, I find the Olsen pro...

The leds are / were rated at 20ma.

Re: Rule and letting weight move

As far as movable weight, I have seen a very fast, well performing car that used a tube burried inside the car and the tube had mercury in it.
The weight moved very freely making the car very fast.

Re: The Limit of Pine as a material

I find using a piece of baltic birch plywood glued to bottom of pine block aids in strength and prevents warpage. I use 1/8" bb ply but 1/16 is available as well. the 1/8" bb ply is available w/ 3 plys as well as 5 plys (ecxpensive stuff). The 5ply 1/8" is sold as aircraft quality ply...

Re: Help with a craftsman 10" band saw.

The guides should be flat and adjusted the thickness of a slip of paper from the blade If the tires have groves then I would start there. Replace the tires and maybe locate an owners manuel to show wheel adjustment and alignment. To check alignment place a long straight edge (yard stick or ?) across...

Re: Help with a craftsman 10" band saw.

One problem is it's Craftsman. Not real good power tools. Sounds like the wheels are warped or out of adjustment. All the wheels must be in line with each other. The tires could also be bad. After each use one must loosen the blade tension so the tires don't take a SET. I would check the alignment f...

Re: Fund Raising PWD race next weekend 06/30/07

The fund raising PWD race went pretty good for a first time event. Gave out some beautiful trophies, lots of prizes and everyone had alot of fun. Had a camera but was too busy conducting race. The start tree worked great and was a great hit for the races and spectators. I highly recommend adding to ...

Re: IR leds vers Halogen light bulbs

Well the Race went off pretty well considering that the turn out of racers was low but the crowd was big. Question 4 superdave- the Halogen bulbs worked great in shop but get the finish line outside and one lane won't read correctly. Won't detect when car passes so the timer won't display time. Same...

Re: IR leds vers Halogen light bulbs

Wouldn't IR be perfered over visiable light IF the IR is pulsed say 38meghertz?
Or DTMF?
I believe most ifnot all tv audio equiptment uses such?
An IR beam that caries the DTMF signal and the dectors hav a detection circuit which decodes ONLY the carried signal?
A greator distance could be utilized?

Re: Test track set up w / timers etc

Track is an aluminium track made by Beta. I mounted it betweenwooden frames.
The timers are made by Swantech utilizing a photodiode and Halogen light bulbs.
one per lane.
As for the math What are the formulas I need and hope I don't get lost.

Re: Starting gates & tree pics

Track is onlly 2 lanes.
If I get time, I plan on adding a switch so both gates open together like a conventional start gate.
