Re: 2018 Tron Lightcycle
Once I started it as a railrider, it was! I was disappointed that I could not get it to launch off the gate on its own. I am hoping v2.0, which will be longer will help with that issue.

2018 Tron Lightcycle
As I am the Stem Chair for my Boy Scout Council and involved in STEM with Girl Scouts (and their recent renewed interest in a PowderPuff Derby), I thought I'd challenge myself to make a two-wheeled racer. A friend tested a partially completed version at his AWANA Grand Prix (not all that successful,...

Re: Aerodynamics ?
I don't think it plays that big a factor except in the semi pros. :) For the average racer, wheels and weight are the biggest factors (and I'm not sure how to rate one over the other). My four girls just completed a PowderPuff Derby for Girl Scouts. It was decidedly unfair as a variety of car kits w...

Re: Ultrasonic cleaning for axles!
That would be interesting. I have a unit I bought to clean my glasses. Never thought of using it for axles!

Buying "Vintage Kits"
Does anyone have a source for old style vintage kits? Since Beta Crafts stopped selling them, I can't purchase any. I wanted to go make a few tribute cars to the one I made with my father. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/512777107542530156/ https://i.pinimg.com/originals/71/c3/15/71c31515e5f4d32579834...

Never have an award category of "best use of glitter." I'm still finding glitter on me.

I'll look into the GPRM compatibility issue. I didn't notice any static when we raced yesterday no.

Hard to tell Speedster. The new direction is creating some bad blood between BSA and GSA.

Re: Pinewood Derby at the Boy Scout level?
They learn over time. My four girls spend varying amounts of time designing, sanding, panting and such. One of my twins sits down in the basement sometimes for hours getting it right. She consistently wins more design awards. Sometimes that motivates her sisters, sometimes not. Every year I work wit...

Derby Magic Track in 2018
After a 15-year absence our local Back Diamond Girl Scout Council had a wildly successful Powder Puff Derby race. Expecting and planning for maybe 40 girls, we had over 160 girls racing! My four girls represented well, one earning third place for speed (for a block-shaped deer that proves aerodynami...

Re: Pinewood Derby at the Boy Scout level?
The real solution is to have your son take on the position of Den Chief with a local pack. Then he can keep making racers with his Den! That's what my son did for almost 5 years. He would just race in the siblings/leaders races.

Work Race
I love my crew at work. Based on an overheard conversation I had with one of the guys who works for me, a young father of a Wolf Scout, about his son’s pinewood derby car, my entire IT team is now going to hold a pinewood derby race. Four women, seven men. Me, one Eagle Scout in his second year doin...
