Re: What does your block weigh?

I think below 10 grams you start getting to the point of diminishing returns and start increasing the risk of failure (breakage). We've successfully pushed it down below 8 grams and I've heard some people have been down in the 6 gram area. The question is how much do you gain when you get below 10 g...

Re: What does your block weigh?

Depending on the design you should be able to get it under 10 grams (0.35 oz). You have to think about where you can remove wood to survive the stopping section.

Re: What type of scheduling?

Both were due to equipment malfunctions which were not recognized until after the racing was over and the participants gone.
Stan, Please identify what the equipment malfunctions are and how to avoid them.

Re: Ride ON rail?

One of the potential problems may be the stop section. I think if the wheel spacing is narrow enough to ride on the rails wouldn't the standard stop section (like on a besttrack) not work at slowing the car down? I think it would ride on the stop strip or worse half of the car may slip down between ...

Outlaw Race

This year's Outlaw race....The car won (easily). We had a 7oz weight limit. The wheels are standard BSA wheels that I modified down to around 1 gram each. I think next year I can go under one gram. The car body was around 8 grams before paint.

Re: Junk on the wheels

How exactly do you clean the wheels after a race and before the next. Do you remove the wheel and clean or simply rub the wheel clean while it is on the car?

Re: GPRM Questions

I don't think it is a software issue here. If there's an easier way, I would like to know for next year. I'm not trying to be overly critical but for next year please make sure the rules are clear and train the inspection team. This is how to avoid the same thing from happening next year. The guy at...

Re: GPRM Questions

I like the suggestion you made about current standing.....Randy..... Can you add something to GPRM that would show current standings. Maybe something like what the network TV's show during a NASCAR qualification. The slider thing on the bottom of the screen with car number(s) pointing to where they ...

Re: What are the odds?

We had a similar experience. My son won the pack as a Tiger and went on and was third in the district. I'm still amazed - the car had a lot of things wrong with it (a wobbly wheel, it was cut the wrong way, had way too much wood, etc...) This was before we found DT and Stan's book. Both my son and I...

Re: Excluding Tigers from competing for Pack Champion?

I have to agree with the other people on this topic. Tigers should be included. What first grader wouldn't love to get a trophy. Getting away from PWD for a moment....What rank sells the most popcorn? What rank is the most excited about scouts? What rank does the most boy to boy recruiting? What ran...

Re: Sound question

I'm confused...How can you tell that the car sounded different if it was running with other cars on the track at the same time? How many lanes did your track have?

It could be that the car was hollo and had very thin sections of wood that might cause the car to sound different.

Re: BSA vs. Pine Pro

Do the scouts in your pack have to go out and purchase their own car kits? If so then this could be part of the problem. What we do is purchase the cars and sell them to the boys. This is also a big convenience to the parents since the scout store is almost an hour away. I've had a couple of parent...

Re: Weight placement question

...."Consider a spherical pinewood derby car...."
Now we're getting close.... Consider a spherical weight shape. A dense spherical weight shape will minimize the energy loss when the car changes vector(s). But I also belive it is good to have the weight low to increase stability.

The Wii is great !!! I'm sure it will be a crowd pleaser.

Did you print the labels yourself? Did you use clear labels and cut them to size?
