Re: Pack Winner from Houston
thanks for the info. We built a wedge that won 1st of 80 cars with one of about 25 heats lost by a nose. We beat the same car in several other heats so I chalk that up to us being in a bad lane. the canted axles comment comes from the wear line line on the inner edge of the wheels. Ive seen this eff...

Re: Liquid Graphite
You might actually get too much graphite in hub of wheel using that type of method. Remember, you don't want to pack the wheel either. I was always going to try that method for applying graphite to hub. Why not packing the wheel? Last two years with our car we pack the graphite into the wheel bore ...

Bore Treatment
Greetings: My son and I have tapped our wheels for 3 years now, first year with a machine tap and since then with a 4-40 machine screw after using the pro hub tool. This does not seem to be so popular, but it has worked for us so far. My question is this - what is the best bore treatment method to r...

Congratulations! Quite an accomplishment, especially considering its not the first time. How many entries in your districts?

Re: Drilling holes straight and true
Thanks for the tip. I ordered one from Max Velocity today. For the bodies I already drilled, I will run a post check with a pin to check for binding and with a square to check for correct angle.

Subjective evaluation: 2 and 5 are the best for balance, roundness, concentricity.

Re: Which wood block to use?
I just posted a thread relating to growth rings before I read this one in detail. I prefer the wide growth rings due to ease to drill holes without throwing off the drill bit tip. Grain boundaries tend to make the tip wander.

Drilling holes straight and true
As we do every year so far, we make more than one "copy" of key car components. This gives us the opportunity to post-select the best ones and to build more than one car and race them off against each other. Since this is our third year now we are focusing more on the fine details (how to ...

Axle Roundness Improvement with Pro Body Tool
How round have you been able to get your axles with the pro-body tool? The BSA axles I use have a diameter difference between the ridged sides and the non-ridged side of about .006". After multiple strikes I am still only able to get .001" or so improvement. I as actually thinking about st...

Life After the Wedge?
Greetings: For those current or reformed "wedgies" out there, have any of you considered other body designs that might look a little more exciting than the wedge yet still retain its aerodynamic qualities? Those of you that have tried the rail, have you stuck with it or gone on to somethin...

Derby Talk Traffic
I am curious. Starting with my observation that this year's forum posting traffic seems to be down this year vs last year this time. I wonder why. Perhaps the question goes to those that have stuck with the board through the whole year (I tend to be a seasonal participant). I ask for your comments t...

Re: Hardening Axles - Pros, Cons?
So there are still two questions in my mind:
Does the metal in the axle even respond to heat treat?
Does a harder axle make a faster car?
BTW we've done heat treat the last 2 years but have never done any RHC testing.
