Re: OK, which bore size is faster
Good replys above, but I'll try to expand. I assume your rules require standard BSA supplied wheels and axle's. The problem is there is often a huge variation of the size of the wheel bore's and axle's. Notice the numbers on the wheel's, they vary because they are cast at different times (the proces...

Thanks to all that have contacted me.
Due to changes in interest and age I no longer am able to advise on PINEWOOD cars. I now use my middle name Neil and much else has changed in my life. I would like to thank everyone that has contacted me for the past 5 years. Many of my students have been very successful. I am confident in the futur...

Re: epoxy wheels
At our regional race one child had wheels that the inside was filled with epoxy. This "heavy wheel" car took first. Generally by a car lenght. His father observed that the last 10 feet it tended to make up ground and pass others but was slow to start. Notes track is 30' with normal slope ...

Re: Axles and wheels.
Currently we are machining our axles on a drill press. We remove all burrs and then straighten the axles. Then we use micro files to perform the following- -taper the axle heads. -groove the axles with a round profile using a round file. We usually machine 8-10 axles to pick the best for a car. Axl...

Win with good advice and testing.
Once again I won our den, bear division, forfited the overall pack to allow someone else to enjoy winning( placed well enough to qualify for the districts), for fun I raced the adult division top three (except Dad, he drpoed out after wining the adult division) and won against the next top 3, and be...

Alex's Dad, the rules are negotiable. I assure you I have no "bar tricks" in mindWarpSpeedINC wrote:What are the rules?

Re: Speed up or Slow down??
Most good serious hobby shops have extremely small drill bits. A dremmel will hold tiny #bits.

Re: Best Graphite?
Hi Need for Speed. I don't doudt that you found a better dry lube than HOBY-E-LUBE, if it works better then great. But read my earlier post. A fine graphite , in fact diferent mesh sizes of graphite mixed are probably good. But to get the "ball bearing" effect of molybdenum you still need ...

Re: Should I angle the axles?
Schools out today due to fouled water. That's great. I like the private tutors Dad has hired for me but seem to learn little in school. I understand that though because they have to teach age appropriate so everyone can learn. Alex says: Definately do not cant your axles. Alex, if there is one thing...

Re: Best Graphite?
Great, our school is out today due to fouled water so I get to have some fun here and share some opinions, not necessarily facts. Along these lines: I've wondered whether if you took Hob E Lube, and ground it down with a mortar and pestle, if it would be faster because the graphite would be finer af...

Re: Which axle type is best?
Grooved axles might work well with a dry lube, but only because of the lube resevoir it makes. The grooves wouldn't reduce the friction though, the same amount of friction is just transfered to the points of contact. We get to use any lube that doesn't foul the track. I use NY-Oil and it works great...

Re: A couple of Axle Polishing questions...
There are several types of Mothers polish, the finest I think though is 3 mircons. I could be wrond but I don't see that a liquid polish is needed. I very lightly start with 600 grit paper then 1500 grit then finish off with 5000 grit paper. Believe it or not, the hobby shop Dad takes me to has sand...

Re: Speed up or Slow down??
Sounds like Stan agees with reasoning for not grinding down Hob-E-Lube before using. I use NY-Oil now so it doesn't apply to me, unless I were to go to some place that only allows dry lubes. I've raced at several tracks and none of them allowed relubing between races. When I did use a grahite-moly m...

Re: Probably dumb question on Stan's approach to alignment
Good news and bad. I have such a bad cold I couldn't go to school but I get to tinker with the car I'm going to enter in the district races. Maybe I've just been lucky but with well drilled holes on a 3 wheel extended wheel base car I've never had an alignment problem. Just a a slight twist on the f...

then a 1 and 1/4" COG in front of the rear wheels is plenty good enough to win. . Is plenty good enough all your after. I don't mean to sound like a smart alec, excuse me if I do please. Your sons success sounds great. Congradulations to him. But have him compete against himself. What I mean i...
