Re: Recessed wheel bore on the new wheels ! why ! ill tell y

I like the idea of kids who do more working doing better.

I am not in favor of the kid whose dad spends the most money on extra gear winning the race. That violates the intent and spirit of the whole deal.

Re: what's with the rules???

Much of it depends on who is running the race. Some local chapters are run by people who have the big picture in mind, which is for families to have a good experience together and build some family bonding times around building and racing a car. Other race directors turn into virtual race dictators ...

Another way to look at this is that every pinehead really never completely grew up. So in essence, it is still kid vs. kid. There is just a big difference in ages and potentially size.

Re: Pinewood Derby is in the Wikipedia

I love Wikipedia too. Our school system doesn't think it is a reliable source of info for our students, so they block the whole darn thing. Web filters can be a two-edged sword.

Yep, it hit right at the core blemishes of PWD. Pretty astute observations.

Re: Allow PineCar Kits or Not Next Year?

I guess it depends on what you mean by "pre-cut car". If it is just a wedge or something like that, then I agree. But some of them are substantially more sophisticated than a wedge. Two things I don't like about that scenario: 1- The point is in the process, not just the product. 2- The po...

Sporty,

Thanks for the clarification. I think when it is clear that it is a car for dad, then pull out all the stops and go for it. Totally different animal then.

Pinewood Derby: Then and Now

I just came across a great article which highlights the difference between PWD races of yesteryear vs today. It made me laugh and reminded me of many of the ethics discussions I have read on this list. Well worth the read for any true pine-head. Enjoy! http://www.imperfectparent.com/articles/not-you...
