Re: Cubmobile hints
Don't use lag bolts to mount the wheels. They just won't hold up in a 2x4 for very long, if a scouts steps on the car near the wheel it splits. I would recmd a full length axle or the longest lag bolts you can find. As far as safety goes, ensure the steering is very limited. They scout take a couple...

Re: Piantedosi Oars Track Review
So, have you gotten your track yet? I had a software customer of mine, whose race is Saturday, order a Piantedosi aluminum track early too and still have not received it. They broke out the super glue and bailing wire to patch their old track together for their race. That will probably not sit well...

Re: Timing the runs
KLenort, I am assuming that you are only running one cubmobile at a time or that you are only interested in the fastest cubmobile in a heat. The only problems that I can see would be the length of wire needed between the start and finish lines (Just how far do cubmobiles race?), and making sure tha...

Re: The "Thrill" of the Race
To me, it is the consistency over the course of a race that determines the fastest car. It is more of a challenge to perform at a top level heat after heat, since there are many variables that can affect a car's performance over the course of a race. It shows a well designed car and the skill of th...

Actual "Running the Race"
Software: Grand Prix I would like to know the specifics of how others run a derby using this software and a Perfect-N chart. :tellme: 1)How do you get scouts to know and show up at start gate when it is their turn ? Do you distribute score sheets ? I am worried about wasted time trying to gather the...

Re: The "Thrill" of the Race
I'm a NASCAR fan, and in NASCAR it's always been (until 2004) that the "Most Consistent" driver wins the championship. A driver can have an engine blow up or a tire blow at any time ..... and thats all part of racing. It can happen to any driver at any given day. I think the same should ap...

Re: Piantedosi Oars Track Review
Klenort, I believe that Gary Piantedosi would be best qualified to answer that. I would get on the Piantedosi web site and find his e-mail address and send the question to him (post the answer here for others though). Also, ask him when my track will ship! Does Piantedosi recmd any specific finishe...

Scouting Experience
Just curious to see what kind of experience is out there. The norm in my area on the Cubscout side is about 3 years, then the leaders move on to boyscouts. Thats the challenging part of being a Cubmaster.

Timing the runs
A stopwatch works, but their has to be a better way. Does anybody know how difficult it would be to hook-up GPRM to a cubmobile race using a snap switch on the starting ramp and either photo-eyes or a air switch (triggered by running over a hose) at the finish line ?

Re: Which race scheduling method do you use?
As to how to use your track... a lot depends on the racing goals. Do you want to identify and reward Den Winners? Age Group Winners? Pack Winners? Do you trust your electronics timers and track and track operators to produce consistent timings through an entire day of racing? (If you think that you...

Re: Which race scheduling method do you use?
I noticed on the pole that lane rotation has the highest number of votes. Is this because it provides ease in getting each scout to make their lane runs all at once? Why is stearns so low ? Isn't it very similar to Perfect-N ? I'm kinda confused as to what system to use. We have been using a 2-lane ...

Re: Does your organization have a derby participation charge
Our pack has always had free kits and racing, it's the boy's benny for selling popcorn. We did charge $5/scout for our district Cubmobile race last year, but that included a free pizza ,pop, and a medal (we broke even).

Re: Piantedosi Oars Track Review
I wish some track manufacturers, like Piantedosi, would come out with stopping blocks that you could buy as an accessory. I built some for the track that I had built for our Awana club, since we were having issues with cars crashing at the end with wheels and weights being knocked off. With the sto...

I am currently in charge of what is becoming known as the Timothy Cup. It is sponsored by Raceway Ministries here in California, and is in the process of moving nationwide with the NASCAR race series. Tim My son are huge NASCAR fans and scouters. My wife and I plan on treating him to a NASCAR race ...
