Re: Branded Blocks
They are clueless. I tried to get a copy of their rules last year and no one knew nothing. Last year was my first year and it turns out they didn't hold a district race. It is my understanding from talking to older scout's parents that in previous years there was a pack that bought their track to t...

Re: How to detect after market Nickel plated axles
I would suggest direct comparison with an unmounted polished axle. Still, the polish used could be blamed... As for boys coloring axles, I would think the rules not covering an issue implies they ALLOW and issue... As for inspection holes, why would it be illegal to grind the points down in the fron...

Forum Suggestion: Subtopics, IPB upgrade
I have been a member of over a hundred forums in the past 10 years... most of which I not stayed active in.... I would say there are 5 that I visit weekly and 10 more that I visit bi-monthly and another 10 after that semi-annually. I am curious if a sub forum topic of Car Construction has been consi...

Re: 2008 Pack winner- Arrow Car
I am curious if the fin were weight, vise balsa, that the added height of the of the weight would have resulted in an even faster car. (PE would have had more Potential Energy)

Re: Replacing Molten Lead with Bismuth?
Bismuth is also diamagnetic... repelled by magnetism. The reason you will not find it cheap either. Still, the uneducated may cry foul if they knew this. And if your track has any iron parts esp magnetized, you might notice a slight time difference. From Wikipedia: Bismuth: Density (near r.t.) 9.78 ...

Re: My Workshop and Stations (pictures)
I would think a belt sander would be a too big a pinch hazzard to risk. Also, with even say a 120 grit belt sander, the amount of bite from the sander would be a touchy situation for soft pine.

Re: Screaming Mimi
A balsa wood airplace that has a wind up prop and Rubber band might do the trick if the Gate Master is cool with dropping the gate a second or 2 after you let go.

Get on the internet and search too. There are a few sites that leak out enough info that you won't need the books, besides, this forum is like a book that gives back answers!

Re: Rail Riding on an Old Standard Awana track +
I loosely asked about the rules and simply was referred back to them. Getting involved in volunteering with the event is a fair way to get a look at the track before racing. You would likely need to be a church member to do so. Your race experience needs to be voiced if you wish to have a chance to ...

Re: Badly Bungled Awana Race
This was the first year with a timer, and if you want to see Godly Christians at their worst, don't use a timer. The line judges are inundated with multiple parents providing instant replays that show how their child won! A timer is a equally fault(less) judge. The computer program only partly dispe...

My Lessons Learned for an AWANA Grand Prix
To the Forum: Below the dashed line is the feedback I recorded the day after they raced in an AWANA Grand Prix. Hopefully I came across humbly enough that the suggestions will be taken to heart for next year. ---------------------------------- From my view, I felt rushed for time at the set up. I wa...

Speed and Design Trophies Judged Seperate or Together
What is the consensus: I have seen a 1st place Design winner also take home the 2nd place Speed Trophy. In a small group this seems especially unfair. Since there are only so many trophies, I feel the Speed winners should be excluded from the Design trophies. Thus the Design is awarded after the Spe...
