I now understand - comparing track times
Our district race was also with a 35' best track and at the pack level - my sons car ran 2.502 average. at district - he ran 2.8+ so why the differences? our track was put together much more smoothly - we noticed a slight bump right after the transition. this caused cars that were smooth on our trac...

Re: Pack vs Rank races
One thing to add - with rank racing, in theory the new scouts are just learning. THis might be unfair to them since there are scouts (or really parents) who have been doing it much longer.

Racing a longer track (35' to 42' track)
So the district race is upon us - and that track is the same brand as ours (best track - aluminum) but is 1 section longer. Is there anything my son should look at on his current car that wouldn't matter as much on the shorter track?
thanks in advance.

Re: Hate to see it happen.
I agree that the 4 wheel touch is bad. I also think we would mostly agree that this could give an advantage. had he not made such a stink with a ton of other cars - having them reset the axles so all wheels touch - i might not complain. had i or another inspected the car and passed it - i also might...

Re: Hate to see it happen.
Personally i think the rule stinks. you get a group of kids building cars and youre lucky to have 3 wheels touching.
We used a box to check all 4 touching - ihs wheel was at about 40* slant - it might touch if the cars were running daytona

Hate to see it happen.
The 'check in guy' for our pack this year checked his son's car in. (ill bet a few of ya know where this story is heading - so get some popcorn) One new rule this year is the 4 wheel touch rule. he even sent SEVERAL cars back through tech to get this right. of course someone mentioned his car didnt ...

GPRM - removing scout from grand finals.
SO this year we had a scout want to leave after his den race. of course he made the grand finals - though we didnt realize it until we created the grand finals round. When i tried to remove the scout from grand finals - i ended up removing all of the grand final scouts from the registration (not jus...

Re: Handling bad wheel for strict rules
If the wheel rolls okay on an inclined surface, but wobbles when it's on an axle, then you could use the trick of drilling an oversize hole in the hub. The wheel will roll on the track, but it won't bear any of the car's weight. Interesting. so i wonder if this would reduce friction if all 4 wheels...

Re: Handling bad wheel for strict rules
My question was kinda two fold also. im actually asking for a friend - their pack is more strict than ours. he is going to talk to the chair. the reasoning was something about people giving an inch and taking a foot ... it sounds like it was started to prohibit people from reusing wheels or from pur...

Handling bad wheel for strict rules
If you had rules that required to use of wheels that you were issued (cant go to store and buy more) - and all 4 wheels must touch the track - how would you handle this? where on the car would you place this bad wheel?

How do you know if youre fast?
Sounds pretty dumb - right? if you beat everyone else - youre fast! Well we have never run on the same type track from the pack to the district. Our pack now has new a 35' best track aluminum track and our district race has been on a hot-wheels looking plastic track. (completely different setups). a...

Does block design matter?
It seems like there's 2 camps in car design - those that make cool looking cars and those who make the ultra-thin cars with a gram or so of wood just to fit into some rule. So are the ultra-thin rails/wedge designs the fastest - all other things equal? My first thoughts would be that they would be j...
