Re: Axel polishing
Hey Jorrflv, In looking at the pics, I can't tell if you taped off the area around the axle holes. If you didn't, I would strongly recommend that you sand the paint off, back to the bare wood, the area around where the wheel may make contact with the body. A turning pinewood wheel against paint equa...

Re: Axle Head Dynamics of Revell vs Box Wheels
rpcarpe- 1st item: Shoot me your e-mail on pm and I'll be happy to send you a copy. 2nd item: Actually, to make the BSA wheels comparable to the Revell wheels that you can buy, you would have to ADD material to the BSA wheel, not remove it. The Revell wheels do not have a step because they have no i...

Re: 2013 evolution of CFC / SeminoleSprings Event Guide
Hey pack529,
On page 2 of the booklet, you say that the rules were updated to include a clarification on "made in China Revell" wheels, but I find no discussion of that anywhere in the rules???

Re: Axle Head Dynamics of Revell vs Box Wheels
So bottom line: BSA wheels are faster, get rid of rules that prohibit step removal! rpcarpe - I agree with the first part of your bottom line! In interest of full disclosure, I am the chairman and in charge of the district derby for one of the largest districts of scouts in the US, I also run the p...

Re: Axle Head Dynamics of Revell vs Box Wheels
I understand the benefits of removing the step, what I don't get is the comment: I have a problem with the rule if "BSA-licensed product fresh out of the box" fails to satisfy the rule. The rule should be tossed ... promptly! Attempts to enforce the rule will cause "lotsa distress.&qu...

Re: better aligned car slower on low slope
I'm going to echo Speedster's comment: How do the wheels behave going backwards? On the tuning board, without the dominant wheel steering, the "speed" forward and backwards should be the same if the wheels are well aligned. I use this as my quick rough test for alignment before I go into d...

Re: Axle Head Dynamics of Revell vs Box Wheels
Just in case anyone if following this or is curious.... Prepped the Revell wheels and ran them last night. While the lack of the step made aligning and tuning much easier, the weight difference was a no-go. Wheels ran about .04 slower than out-of-the-box stock BSA. Swappped back and forth on a coupl...

Re: Axle Head Dynamics of Revell vs Box Wheels
Speedster - I appreciate the response. I looked but couldn't find Stan's post on the exact speed contribution. I did notice the weight issue, but also by buying a couple of sets, was able to find three that are relatively close to the BSA wheels. I'm wondering if the benfit of contact closer to the ...

Axle Head Dynamics of Revell vs Box Wheels
Hello All, I've gone through the search and read about every thread I could find on the Revell wheels vs the box or "Made in USA" wheels. But this weekend I ran into an interesting twist while running our workshop. Our Pack derby is in a week, followed by District. Pack rules are a mirror ...

Re: Do Rules Help?
How about learning to compete and excel WITHIN the rules? Calling out the ones in this thread that are against the ever increasing rules structure as needing vices to win?? You might as well just go one step further and call us cheaters. Slippery, That was honestly not my intent. If you interpreted...

Re: Do Rules Help?
Wow  I really can't believe some of these comments. "Throw out the rules" "Just use the rules in the box".... Which rules exactly in the box do we use and which do we ignore? Ignore the part that says the Race Committee shall set the rules and racing format? Ignore the ru...

Awesome job!   It's kind of doubtful that the lubrication method is going to gain you much, unless you saw something to indicate that there was a lubrication problem, such as a serious increase in times times in the later "final" races. Quite honestly, where we've had t...

Arrrrrrrg! Why do we do it!
Ok, I know I'm not the only one who's done this, because I've done it more than once! Car was running great. Won pack. Getting ready for District. Figured I could "tweak" the alignment just a little bit to pick up a little more speed :eager: Ran it down the track for a baseline speed. Twea...
