Re: Alignment Tool Comparisons

Hi folks! It's certainly been a while! :) One additional attribute that is worth considering for the Den and Pack build night scenarios is that the some of these jigs have the drill bit guide that gets bigger and less precise with each use. This is true even for the tools requiring no drill press. M...

Re: Axle plating

I played with copper/nickel and chromium electro-plating...the latter interesting because of hardness. However the chemical hazards were not worth it. Cost was high. And, like shorty points out imperfections were difficult to eliminate. What I was REALLY interested in was a tungsten carbide axle set...

Re: Turning Wheels on a Mini Lathe.

Hi You Guys! It's been awhile! Impressive article/tutorial again Mr. Pope! Three generations at the mini-lathe cutting precision wheels...damnation. I sure miss this stuff...sigh. All mine are gone and no grandkids in sight...sigh. Anyway, I hope you all are well and I wanted to say hi and see who t...

Re: Lets Ride The Rail!

RR is absolutely proven and may be worth a foot or more over 48 ft vs a identically built and perfectly aligned straight runner. The main reason you'll have a hard time pinning anyone down on specific time advantage is because that elusive number is a "moving goal-post" due to the inconsistency inhe...

Some are more "vastly improved" than others ;)

That fact is either a problem or an opportunity depending on your point of view.

Re: Tools. Pictures. Drilling axle wholes.

To the casual surfer newbie checking out all these excellent options for making axle holes in your pineblock: To keep cost of the drill-guide style of tools down, softer metals must be used by their manufacturers. In cases where the drill bit is in contact with the tool, beware that you may be enlar...

Re: Aerodynamics ... Opportunities?

I've never played with fenders after playing with such questions a few years ago. My conclusion was that the 7 inch body length limit was a problem.

Reading Stan's post makes me wonder what happens if a few standard car limits, i.e. length, or weight, or both, are lifted.

I have a sneaky feeling this is going to be a very popular car in PWD real soon.

I'm sure it will turn up soon.

Re: Few questions on build related to our rules

I agree with Stan, the only opinion that matters is the Race Director or Rules Committee. Guessing wrong could be very bad scene for your Scout...best to get written clarification or sign-off. FWIW: Slots get a bum wrap...one of the fastest racers ever to grace this board OWNED pure stock racing and...

Re: Re-lubing

Krytox does in fact have an evaporation but I've never attempted to sort out what that drying time is since I've never left it to chance. My experience has been that your biggest enemy is dust and dirt contamination. It's important to keep the car clean and isolated as long as possible to avoid gunk...

Perhaps Doc Jobe will pop in and take this, but I agree with FS's response. You might want to ping him directly as he is very accessible via the net.

Re: Science behind it. O.D. Size, A physics topic for stan a

The cool thing about PWD is that there is always theoretical low time for a given set of car construction parameters. It's fun (most of the time ) to try and close the gap between theory and practice. One way that has proven quite useful for many - especially for the Physics calculator impaired, lik...

Re: Carpenter Square

Beware of "squares" that aren't! Lot's of folks have picked up bargains from the local import emporium that were visibly off. (a business card edge proves a sizable and/or variable gap) It should be a crime to sell a measuring tool that is literally a toy off by fractions of an inch. When this is po...
