Re: so why do we do it?

I wanted something to do with my son that would get him interested in working with his hands. The first year was an epic fail putting too much weight to the back of the car. Last year we redeemed ourselves but didn't do well in district. I was more interested in it than he was. This year he built th...

We were the one to watch

Had our pack race Sunday and we swept the competition. This year my son built the car totally on his own. All day I kept hearing the boys and dads asking which was my sons (Jets car complete with tungsten football). Then after his race everyone was watching the times to see if he could be beat, but ...

Re: Son won Pack tonight

Great job. It annoys me that you take the time to do the research and they call it cheating.
We had a similar issue last year when we drilled our own axle holes. Nothing in the rules stated we couldn't move the wheels. We put them back and still won every race.

I think a workshop is a great idea.

For weights you could paint some BB's and place them in the pockets

That's great, especially that he won with his design.

That woody is sick, and the detail on the pool table is great.
Thanks for sharing.

Must feel great so sit on the sidelines and just enjoy the race.
Congrats to the kids and your family for running the race.

Hammer Head Swept the competition

My son won first in every heat!!! His fastest was 2.224 on a 24ft track. Here is a shot of him pulling away from the crowd. This year we also held a den leader race where I had the same results. My fastest was 2.185.

Hammer Head Part Deux

Well after my son's first car rolled off the table and broke right at the axle I decided to build him another rather than repair it. The design was just a template I made with scrap from last years car. When he found it he said it looked like a Hammer Head Shark and wanted his car to look like that....

Re: Ninja Warrior

Great build. I think it's great that he made his own design. I'm working on a Sponge Bob with feet as well. I'm thinking of either gluing a piece of clear plastic over the top or maybe a twist tie. I was thinking because of the legs clear plastic on the top would help launching sooner as the pin dro...

Re: Spray paint question...

Try warming up the paint before spraying. I keep mine in the laundry room next to the boiler, but sitting it in warm water works as well. Do several mist coats instead of trying to cover it all at one time. You also need to let it dry/gas out between coats. Although it may look dry it is still curin...

Well it was really heavy on the tail but I thought the weight was supposed to be as far back as possible. I guess I have some more reading to do.
