Can I run the "Pine Car" wheels right out of the bag?

I bought this: http://www.pinewoodpro.com/p/091388.html" target="_blank I was about to start polishing, but when I took a close look at them, they look pretty darn good right out of the package. I polished one for fun, but honestly, I didn't see much of a difference...maybe a little worse ...

Re: Sibling racing - liability

The race is May 3rd. We moved it to the American Legion parking lot due to our tire issue. They have a nice sealed parking lot that's a lot smoother. So that should bring us in closer to the 125 foot mark. We have 125 people attending so far. 50 scouts, 25 siblings and 50 parents. We plan on selling...

Re: Our ramp almost done

Yeah, I'm sure we'll add something in between the cars. We're gonna borrow the concrete parking barriers from the parking lot to use as the center divider with safety cones on each side of the track. And yes, that is carpeting. :)

Do not buy cheap wheels - whatever you do.

We bought wheels on harbor freight - 56 of them to be exact to build 13 cars for our first ever cubmobile race. They seemed liked they'd be "good enough". Come to find out, the bearings are so terrible that the cars won't even roll down hill. They wobble pretty bad too. They were $3.49 eac...

Re: Cubmobile won't roll...

Yeah, were not using the entire 1000'. How in the world are you getting 3 min spin times? We're getting 3 second spin times. The wheels weigh 10lbs each. Maybe that has something to do with it? We tried using the bearing, but there seemed to be more friction using them than not. Did you remove the b...

Were not using the entire 1000 feet btw. Anyway...we put the car ...

Re: Sibling racing - liability

Yeah, I'd like to get as much of the family involved as possible. Our 6y/o daughter's tired of going to her big brothers activities and sitting there bored all day. For those of you not aware, we're doing this a little different than most others. We have 85 boys in our pack and each den is building ...

Re: Sibling racing - liability

Were holding a cubmobile race, outside, down a hill.

If the boys get hurt, our insurance covers us. If the siblings get hurt (racing the cars) it doesn't.

Sibling racing - liability

We'd like to let siblings (non-scouts) race. There was some concern about liability though since our insurance doesn't cover them. Has anyone come up with a liability release that would prevent us from being sued? Any thoughts on this?

Thanks in advance!

Need help with running our first cubmobile race.

I'm the committee chair for our first cubmobile race. We running 11 cars (one from each den) in the morning (each boy runs the car twice and we average the time for the den), and opening up the race to boys that want to build their own cars in the afternoon. We have 85 boys in the pack. I'm trying t...

Re: Wooden Dowels for Axles?

Good point.

I'm sure it wouldn't take much of a curb incident to smash these up pretty good.

Re: Wooden Dowels for Axles?

Thanks. For the mock up I just drilled small holes across the end of dowels and used nails to hold them on. I'd upgrade to a clevis pin if we went with that setup in the race. A simple screw is holding the other end into the car, drilled from above, through the 2x4 and dowel. If these did split or b...

Wooden Dowels for Axles?

We are building 12 cubmobiles for our pack. We ordered wheels with a 5/8" bearing and soon realized that any material suitable for axles in that size was big money. So I was building a mock up, and not wanting to spend big money just for the mock up I decided to use 5/8" wooden dowels sunk...
