2 years in a row - 1st place, fastest in the pack!

Once my older son broke away from the Turbo Python series, which were always winners we redesigned the next car and won 2013. This year my little one codesigned his 2nd car and dang if we didn't do it again! Amazing coincidence, both years I've been the coordinator and ran the races. It doesn't look...

Re: GPRM vs DerbyMaster. Opinions please?

I was in the same situation 2 years ago. I became the PWD chairman and we had a software solution that wasn't very good. I did my research, purchased GPRM and it has been the best investment we've made in PWD products for our pack to date. The support for the software is second to none and the soft...

GPRM vs DerbyMaster. Opinions please?

I've ran DerbyMaster for 2 years now for our pack. It's a hand-me-down, no one's any kind of expert in it, and it's a little glitchy. Our pack is looking at GPRM now. Which is really better?

Re: Tools?

LOL! This is like asking fishermen- what's the best lure? We were joking during our last race, we won every heat, when the guy next to me asked- "Ok, what's your secret?" I replied- "About $50,000 in machine shop in my basement". Drill press is essential. Axle press square Band s...

Re: What's after the districts?

This year our Council races are held during Scout-A-Rama on April 9th. The district races are held on April 30th. Go figure. If you have the itch to race some more get together with other scout families in your area and hold your own races. There are online leagues, but we won't get into them here....

Re: Are you ridiculed on the track? Looked at, and suspected

My cub does everything he can on the car, but some things like just pressing down the nozzle on a full size can of spray paint are hard for him. So he holds the can while I spray. My son had the same problem. To fix this at our workshops, we bought a couple of those trigger handles that fit over th...

Re: Are you ridiculed on the track? Looked at, and suspected

In my workshops this year, the kids would sometimes lose interest and wander off. It was a challenge to keep them involved at all times. But, they could usually be doing something productive if the parent planned ahead. All the cars that came out of the workshop looked like kid cars, ran like Dad c...

Re: Are you ridiculed on the track? Looked at, and suspected

I think if it was left entirely to the scouts, no Tiger, and few Bears would do it on their own. If I didn't drive my son, and coerce him to put down the Wii and pick up the tools, we'd never rarely make race day. I've read Don Murphy's intent on PWD racing, and it's suppose to be a father-son proje...

Are you ridiculed on the track? Looked at, and suspected?

Yeah, we won 1st place again. My son conducted himself in the most sportsmanlike manor I've ever seen him. Yet other cubs didn't see it as such. I found out a day after the race some of the cubs had some mean things to say to him. He never flinched. Accusations were made about who really built the c...

Re: Sporty - We won Den and Pack !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, what a day. Last year Dylan's car never made it to the finish line. This year, with much help from Sporty - Dylan's car won the Den and Pack PWD. Needless to say, everyone was amazed and suspicious. But once Sporty straightened me out, it was not really that hard. All the things that I have be...

Re: Remember it's for the kids...Bummer.

Quick story. We do actually have a race at the end of our pack finals and outlaw races. It's called "Beat the Pack Leader". You can run anything you want. No weight restrictions or anything. Just has to fit on the track. Well I didn't know about this last year(our first year). But this ye...

What's after the districts?

Ok, so concluding we have a contender. And being pressured to do district races (win, lose, or draw). We'd like to keep racing as much as possible. What's the next step? I can't find any info on races after district events?

Re: Should I re-lube at districts?

You can't be slowed down by relubing. The graphite goes it's merry way after several heats. I have a track in my basement, and after several runs and break in, relubing becomes essential. By the 10th run I see the immediate difference in performance.

Generation 3 of the Turbo Python series. All the lead is direct poured (molten) into the body, a nice clean aero car.

1st place!

My Bear won his 2nd, 1st place victory. We've been urged to attend districts over the last 3 years, so now we're gonna do it. Pics coming soon.
