Re: Best Track -- "Click, Click"
:welcome: Ted. It is good to finally see another Tri-Citian on DT. I am the one that talked to Ted about the click click on the his track. After watching his District race, I noticed that it was very bad. It was a step up that was causing cars to pop up at the section joints. Only a couple of cars c...

Re: District and Council Derbies do not meet the purpose?
Well we had our district PWD last Saturday. It was poorly attended but those that went had a very good time from the responses that I got that day and since. The first two Saturdays of March were Little League tryouts, and last Saturday's weather was absolutely beautiful. So we may have lost partici...

Re: Inadvertent three wheeler
Three years ago my DE came to me about concerns about a wheel being raced and we going to allow it for district. I told him that the rule simply stated that the car must have 4 wheel connected to the wood via nail type axles. The rules did not state that all wheels had to or did not have to touch th...

Re: Do Rules Help?
If 99% of the scouts and parents are perfectly ok with running mostly "stock" PWD's than asking the one child/parent to tone it down and play by stricter rules in their pack races isn't really a problem. Guess that depends upon your defination of "stock". Is "stock" wh...

Re: Track Speed Change in Mid-Derby?
I have had temperature changes affect the times. One year while my son did some testing for a science fair project, shop had overhead heaters. Had ran probably 30 heats prior to heaters being turned on, then times increased. Turned heaters off, track cooled back down and times returned to normal. I ...

Re: Seemingly last minute weighting questions...
Not at all moot! He knew the car's CM and weight before adding the ballast...the car's CM could very well be at or very near optimum for that track! Give him his due! Spot on Stan. The professor played a sleeper and left everyone :scratching: I know it's not popular to judge by times but 2.937 ave....

Using the Exclude Racers Option if GPRM
Just wandering if anyone has used this option and how it has turned out. Where have you used it? Pack races? Districts? What were the results? I have only used it once at a pack race where the Pack A leaders wanted a kid from Pack B to race but did not want him to effect Pack A results. I offered th...

Well, a ducted fan isn't a starting device, so that should be allowed, right? I don't care who you are, thats just funny! The comments that "you're limiting my "boys" creativity"? ummm, the "boys"???? Yes, my 8 year old came up with the idea all on his own of sha...

Re: Post Race Survey
We try to do "roses, buds, and thorns" after our big events. That way people can provide feedback in all areas, not just complaints. For those of you that have never heard of this: A rose is something that was done very well and people want to see continued. A bud is something that went w...

Re: Poll question
With the child/parent teams that I have helped build RR, we have usually not tested. Most of those cars, won their dens and Packs and placed very well at Districts. We have just made sure the wheels tracked out forward and back, used a testing board to measure drift, and straight edge to make sure t...

Re: Speed on GPRM
There is know doubt that the audience likes the speed read out much more. They can relate with MPH muct easier than they can with hundredths or thousandths of a second. Besides that kids (grown ups too) just think 200 MPH + is awesome. When I talk to a crowd about it, I explain that the PWD car is a...

Just as their are no rules that will stop cheating, there are even less rules that will stop people from accusing others of cheating.slipperyfrog wrote:You will never stop cheating...no way, no how. There will always be someone out there that cheats.

What are we trying to teach? How to turn a plastic wheel on a lathe or how to grow up to be a mature, sound young man? Can't both be done. Cant one say "What are we trying to teach? How to prep a wheel/polish an axle/drill a axle hole/tune a car etc or how to grow up a be a mature, sound young...

Re: They should do away with the slots
My first thought was you bet, all for it. But after thinking about it, I think it would be tougher for first time or casual builders to not have slots. A new builder would have to get a drill press with some way to drill repeatable holes or get a Pro Body Tool/Jig and a hand drill. Some may wonder w...

Re: 1st time trying to make a rail rider
Before you go and change the front wheels around, make sure your rear wheels are going to track right if you switch DFW. You will end up re doing all four wheels. Is the wood repairable? A good quality ca+ hobby glue will fix that split. If the crack is still tight, use the super thin wicking stuff...
