Re: 2009 Mystery Machine

Found a pic, this was our first Derby car ever, in 2002:

My older son didn't win, but we had a lot of fun building it and making the decals. :D

Oh yeah, that is sweet! I know it is going to look awesome!

I just put all my stuff away since it is time for the "Honey do's", ;) stain the deck, paint the boys' rooms etc etc...

Re: Source for Car Decals

Microscale makes great stuff, we used them on my son's "Pennsylvania Flyer" car he made in his last year as a Cub, took first in Pack :) http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p18/zippofan_photos/Derby/flyer1.jpg My favorite places for race car decals are Patto's Place for general racing and I...

Re: The physics of areodynamics

I am looking forward to seeing your Ferrari Rod :) It's funny, but the cars that win don't look anything like real cars that win. Ah well, I guess with the dad's race I am always doomed to lose since I want it to look like a real car! Every little bit hanging off the car (mirrors, pipes etc) will co...

Re: 1st post - What would you do? (Really long...sorry!)

Congrats on your win! :bigups: Because our Pack and District races have a strict four on the floor policy about wheels, we could never build a rail rider unfortunately. We spent all of our alignment time getting the car to go as straight as possible on all fours. This usually involved hours and hour...

Re: Green T - New HR66 Pickup

Sweet, I love hot rods! :bigups: I wish we could get more dads into building cool cars for our Pack adult race but they are all hung up on speed/winning too. Years ago, one of the dads/leaders built hot rods, including a Willys Gasser drag coupe. It was his fault that I started building my Indy cars...

Re: Outsmarting the mavericks at the check in

We had a situation with oil at our District Derby. The rules allowed only dry lubricants, ie: graphite/moly, and were inspected at check in as usual. When running the race, a car was found to have "wet" wheels, the tread surface was covered with some type of oil. The only thing we can thi...

Re: Displaying All Rankings and Times to Everyone after the Race

We don't put the complete rankings up on our big screen, but I do provide the complete set of data from GPRM to our committee. I cut out the individual car reports so each Scout gets his own and no one else's. There are some parents that insist on seeing the entire results after the race, so we turn...

Re: Graphite Tests - Hob-e-lube, Hodges, and Max-V-Lube Graphite

We found adding Tube 'O' Lube increased our performance after using Hodges to burnish the bore and initial lube as per instructions. Gained an average of almost .01 from Hodges only to Hodges with TOL. In our 8 years of Derbies, I think I prefer Tube O Lube best though I didn't try Max-V lube. Maybe...

Re: Testors Lacquer Paint...????

The best clear coat we ever used, and we tryed Krylon Crystal Clear (ruins waterslide decals), Testors Glosscoat lacquer (stinks up the house), Duplicolor clear lacquer (same as Testors), is..... Future Floor Wax :D It can be brushed or airbrushed, over any paint (enamel, acrylic, lacquer), is self ...

Re: First Place in District!!

Its just a little frustrating to explain to a nine year old why he didn't win when his car was first every heat. Its even worse when he is so smart to remember his times from the pack race and wants to know "what I did" to make the car slow down. I am in the middle of explaining that righ...

Surprise District Win

We had our District race yesterday and came away with a first place trophy! The last time we won Districts was in '06, my older son won on the first aluminum track we ever saw, a heck of a lot different that the wooden track our Pack had at the time. He placed 3rd that year on the old track so we we...
