Re: CMI Wheels

Speedster, You may be right on both points. CMI Wheels were late 70's? The ridge was slightly off center on the V cut set I had from Hodges however it was not as close to the inside edge as the CMI wheels in the photos above. Not sure when Hodges started his supply business but I am thinking the CMI...

Re: CMI Wheels

They are definitely the V cut style however maybe not from Hodges Hobby House? I used to have a set of V cut from Hodges and I cannot seem to find them right now, might not have them anymore. One thing I remember about them is they were not CMI. In addition the V cut was off center however I do not ...

TRACK CASE FOR PINEWOOD DERBY TRACK--- SOLD

Awesome Track Case! This Track Storage Box was made by a Company which builds Equipment Storage and Shipping boxes. It is a fantastic Storage Box for a Pinewood Derby Track. It has Locking latches for secure storage, Handles at each end and has Heavy Duty Casters at one end. The inside dimensions ar...

Re: Best Track Storage Box

I built two boxes for a 42' BestTrack. One holds the 4 straight sections and the other holds the start, end and curve sections plus some other race materials (stadium, spectator barrier, to name a few). The inside dimensions are about 2" longer and wider than the track and 9" high. One th...

Re: Using a Tungsten Round this year

Of course, that changes where you drill the hole. Correct? More aggressive--the hole is further aft. Less aggressive--it's further forward. I've bought a couple of these to play with this year. Humvderby, am I to interpret from your comment that you prefer the more aggressive COM for Cub races? Tha...

Re: Using a Tungsten Round this year

Take a look at the Tungsten Canopies - they really change the CoM and maximize the weight location. Using a forstner bit and bot of epoxy you really can maximize the weight. The rounds seem to have too much area for my taste. I mounted the Canopy sideways with 2 additional rounds embedded in the bo...

Re: Using a Tungsten Round this year

Where do you get the slotted rounds from? We get our Rounds from Maximum Velocity. Just go to the website. I think some of the Derby websites have them as well. In regard to the Slot being more centered it really doesn't need to be centered. It is better for it to be toward one end of the round so ...

Re: Using a Tungsten Round this year

I see just now that you are reconsidering use of the round understanding that it will not be as competitive as cubes. IMO, use of the round is to promote ease of construction, than than obtain ultimate performance (although they can be very fast). Fatsebastian, I agree the Rounds are easier to use ...

Re: Has anyone heard of this lube?

Sporty, Are there any warning Labels on the Bottle? Typically there would be some information regarding Flamability, Carcinogenicity Information, what to do if Skin Contact, Inhaled, Eye Contact, Swallowed etc. If it is a lubricant with a Carrier some of the above will apply. I'm not an attorney how...

Re: Has anyone heard of this lube?

Sporty, Did it come with an MSDS sheet? Any liquid Lubricant should come with an MSDS sheet? It's clear so definitely not Moly. The fast drying time indicates the Carrier evaporates rather quickly. This is why it only lasts one Season, the container does not seal well enough to keep the Carrier from...

Re: Tungsten nozzles - save some $$$

If you are planning to use tungsten in your pinewood derby car, there are several ways you can buy it. The easiest way to use tungsten is buy pure tungsten welding electrodes. Do not buy “thoriated” electrodes, as they contain radioactive thorium. You can cut a 7 inch long electrode into 4 weights ...

Re: Has anyone heard of this lube?

Molybdenum Disulfide is commonly referred to as running on Mini Ball Bearings. He actually makes referrence to this in his ad. The ad says "Our lube acts as ball bearings at microscopic level which is millions of times smaller than graphite particles." My understanding was that Molybdenum...
