Re: Basic starter template for new scouts and parents

But are they magnetic?

Our council checks all the axles at weigh-in with a magnet for the Grand Championship races.

Re: Council

We had similiar issues with my sons car. Our Pack rules were much mroe restrictive than district and council. For the most part, it was anything goes as long as it wasn't more than 5 ounces. Canted, rail riders, super smooth wheels, extended wheelbases. 2 cars even had one of the front wheels in the...

Re: Cutting your own pine blocks?

This is true, but for the majority of scouts and parents out there (especially new to the scouts) these things aren't even known or are thought of to be issues. While everyone with experiece would prefer a perfectly cut block, not everyone has those requirements or thinks about those requirements. I...

Re: Cutting your own pine blocks?

A local pack in our area takes some steps to ensure that aftermarket blocks and pre-cut, pre-drilled bodies can't be used. They had a branding iron made up with their pack information on it. When they get the car kits, they brand the bottom (and top if scouts want to drill their own axle holes) of t...

Re: Basic starter template for new scouts and parents

heh, I honestly did not notice I put titanium instead of tungsten. Yes, yes... Tungsten... :D :D Well, he made it to the grand championship for our council. He ended up taking second in rank for Webelos I and was edged out of first place by .0004 by another car if you can believe it. But, in the fin...

Re: Basic starter template for new scouts and parents

Well, he came in 8th overall. Top 3 were all extended wheelbase with tungsten weights. The physics just wasn't on my sons cars side with a stock setup.

He did good, though. Had fun, took it like a boss was proud of himself.

That's all I can hope for.

:D

Re: Basic starter template for new scouts and parents

Again, lightning in a bottle! My son made it to Districts this year for the first time and even though he first said he didn't want to go, we still signed him up. Just got back from the rank races and his car took 1st place in each of his races AND he at first got the track record for his rank and e...

Re: 6 oz car? May need some suggestions...

Just got the rules. It is 5 oz. Thought that was odd for a cub scout derby. :D

So no worries now. Onto the build! Well, info. It's all through email so we'll see how well the little guy does on it.

6 oz car? May need some suggestions...

A friend of mine asked for some help coming up with ideas for her sons car. From what she was telling me, her pack is allowing a 6 oz car this year for their derby. I'm having her confirm by getting the rules, but if in fact that is true, I'm not sure how to weight a car with an extra ounce to maxim...

There were 28 cubes in front of the rear axle and 26 cubs in back. There is a tiny bit of lead tape added during check-in time to bring it up to exactly...
