Re: In Memoriam: Dr. John D. Jobe
I believe Doctor Jobe would be especially pleased that Andrew got his degree in Physics from the University of Texas and is teaching Physics as he works towards his Ph.D. Funny how things work out. Great to hear from you again, Kenny, and congratulations to Andrew. Is he also working / getting his ...

Re: Cheaper alternative than liquid glass
Make sure the synthetic wax is both hydrophobic (repels water) and oleophobic (repels oil), as I have seen they almost always indicate that they are hydrophobic, but only a few state that they are also oleophobic. Do you know of a specific brand that is oleophobic? Some treatment products I've seen...

Re: Cutting the DFW notch?
60,80,100,120,150,180,240,320,400, for woods.. So pretty much anything over 40 up to 400… Let me restate… if I were to buy one grit size especially for grinding out the DFW notch with this little sander, what might you recommend? (It needs to be effective, but not too aggressive, a...

Re: Vitamin K builds a Track! (slowly)
I think that these plans will prove quite useful as a rough guide to follow for the starting section measurements and such. The Cub Scout Leader How-To Book might serve as another dimensional guide for the starting section (See pg. 6–28, or 242 of 288); I believe it was the starting point...

You don't happen to know where I might find a diagram of the Freedom track sections? This earlier post points to the location of Micro Wizard's assembly manual, which has a diagram showing where the section joints reside on an assembled track. This post shows a picture of the first mated joint, rai...

Re: Vitamin K builds a Track! (slowly)
the minimum recommended length for the Challenger track is 46.5', due to how fast the track is, which it attributes to the polished aluminum surface. Track speed will be primarily governed by the height of the starting pins above the flat, usually in the neighborhood of about 3-1/2 to 4 feet high f...

Re: Vitamin K builds a Track! (slowly)
Is it me, or [is] the starting ramp as shown in the standard design here really long? It is long relative to both the Best Track and the Micro Wizard Freedom (you can see a drawing of the latter in Micro Wizard's Track Assembly manual ). I wondered if the Challenger track in the video might have be...

My little 1x30 HF belt sander makes it pretty easy... I don't have one of those myself, but I thought that this subject could be a good application for one. If only it was a 1.18+ x 30 belt sander! Hah. It is a good little tool. Harbor Freight was running a 15%-off coupon for Easter weekend for a o...

Re: Vitamin K builds a Track! (slowly)
I guess I need to do some experimentation. The piantedosi tracks are 3/8" thick and they bend fine, but anything thicker than that, I worry won't bend easily, even if cut in a ladder configuration. Yeah, I wasn't suggesting 1x lumber specifically for this application, just citing that as a fam...

Re: Vitamin K builds a Track! (slowly)
I would probably build a custom 'train car' where the camera is mounted on a frontal car in front of all the racing cars facing them and using an attached 2nd car behind it with weight in excess of 5oz allowing it to still latch to the start gate and push it down the track  Why not mount ...

Re: Vitamin K builds a Track! (slowly)
The track over at APR racing is a 5-lane BestTrack with a center lane that's not used Ok, maybe not " uniquely cool"... but still cool! Edit: It appears to be a custom build. Just FYI, viewing posts on the boards of the Association of Pinewood Racers (APR) requires registration. But...

Re: Vitamin K builds a Track! (slowly)
Honestly, the more I think about this idea, the more I like it. I mean, if I'm going through the trouble of DIY'ing a custom track, it sort of makes sense to add a feature that I wouldn't easily get elsewhere. +1 As mentioned over in the other thread , there is "something satisfying about engi...

D-1 oil formula
You might want to ask the vendors who are selling oils for their opinion. I do not sell anymore. ...if you are no longer selling or creating then it has to be one of the vendor products. I'm not an expert on oils, but I would venture that Buckeye Brew Extreme Oil (BB Extreme) is one of those "...

Re: Vitamin K builds a Track! (slowly)
 I've contacted the ebay seller, though, to see if they can help me out somehow Curious how that turns out, considering that it seems like they depleted the remaining inventory and might lack replacements? At the same time, these track segments were in production for many years, so there's boun...
