Re: 2010 Test cars
So that we might save ourselves from repeating your mistake, where was the COM relative the rear axle? Our two cents... We use a standard wheelbase and run our COM 3/8" - 1/2" in front of the axle. We find this to be pretty aggressive and even on a smooth aluminum track we require a lot o...

Re: PVC Powder
The results we had with the PVC where not much better than with Teflon powder, which is to say horrible!
Sporty is dead on with his input. Lube is just the icing on the cake and for my money the molly/graphite blends are the best "dry" lubes.

Re: What is your best form of weight?
We like the 3/8" cylinders for there ease of use and density. They are easy to place by drilling a hole with a forstner bit.

Re: Bore prep
Sporty, I just placed an order with micro-surface yesterday for the 4000,6000,8000 and 12000 grit adhesive backed sheets. I am going to try it on some straightened electric fence wire which is very rigid. I'll let you know how I make out. I also have the following from WinDerby: 3µm polishing paper ...

Re: Bore prep
Sporty,
I assume the products you purchased from Precision Polishing are the 3M Aluminum Oxide Imperial Diamond Lapping Film in .05, .3, 1 and 3 micron grits. Any updates on which adhesives work best with these? Also, what size sheets did you buy and what did they cost?
Thanks,
Subnet99

Re: Track Timer A True blessing ! Alignment break through
Sporty, Thanks for the quick reply. I just wanted to confirm your methodology. We have never had great success with canted axles. We just shoot for a straight running alignment and make small adjustments as needed to keep the wheel centered between the axle head and car body. We press our axles in t...

Re: Track Timer A True blessing ! Alignment break through
Having a timer, you can turn that axle just like a clock. with 12 turns on the axle, each turn made run and test and see the track times. when the car is faster and you cannot get any better. go onto the next wheel and do the same thing. repeat the process for all 4 wheels. Sporty, Using this 12 tu...

Sources for Plaques/Trophies
I am looking for suggestions for vendors that supply Pinewood Derby plaques and trophies. I know that I can just go to my local shop and/or Google but, thought their might be some online vendors that come highly recommended.

Re: Planning for a "Anything Goes" adult car.
Thanks for the clarification, subnet99. Your stated goals seem aligned with construction and design commonly used in pro- or modified-class league racing. You may also want to check out boards that specialize in those types of races because Derby Talk caters mainly to kids' races... :goodluck: Than...

You guys are definitely getting creative...... Thanks for your input! Let me clarify the the rules: Yes, "almost" anything goes with the following exceptions listed below, so a fan would be permissible. The exceptions would be that the vehicle must fit on the track, fit behind the starting...

Planning for a "Anything Goes" adult car.
Hello all, I am currently in the planning stage for building this year's adult "Anything Goes" car. I believe I am going to use a Lester Racing 100 series body but I cannot decide between cubes or 1" round tungsten. I've always used .5oz tungsten cylinders in the past and I'm not clea...

What I'm struggling with is that I can get a nice 2oz kit for just over $100 and by the time I buy the Kosmic Klear, Reducer, and Katalyst I'll have about $65 in the clear coat alone.
