Thanks guys.. bwahaha aha... help me save my marriage, and buy this thing!
It's been used for 3 seasons, and a couple of science fair demontrations/projects.
Heck, for a small Cub Scout Pack you could use it as your main track.
I might try that angle as well

Re: Pinewood Derby Rules
First, thanks for the considerable "in-town" feedback. We weren't aware that San Tan was dealing with many of the same concerns (I've been trying to make contact with other Districts with mixed success). The 3/8" bottom clearance is recommended, not mandatory. If there's a problem, i...

Re: Pinewood Derby Rules
As I mentioned in another thread on tracks (and ways to damage them), I've been "volunteered" to co-chair our District Pinewood Derby. After meeting all these new dynamic and passionate people not fully enjoying a fine day of racing, I looked at the Council rules and thought: "can th...

Re: Wheels Rules
We're planning on using this same gauge this year. If the wheel fits into the 1.17 slot, then it's too small.ah8tk wrote:Here is the Maximum Velocity wheel go / no gauge. It uses 1.17" as the no go:

Re: Pinewood Derby Rules
It's my understanding that axles can make a big difference, and a Cub who spent time & effort filing & polishing shouldn't be put at a disadvantage by someone who bought their way into a fast axle. It's my understanding that alignment can make a big difference, and a Cub who spent time &...

Re: Pinewood Derby Rules
Also, this year for our Pack rules, I included additional pictures and less text.
I can send those over to you if you'd like. Basically took the ones that someone
generated for the San Tan District race (that may or may not be on this year.. still TBD I heard)
Parents thanked me!

Re: Pinewood Derby Rules
there's nothing against the Cub Scout trying to improve the performance of the car between races within the rules - as long as it's the same car. The wheel rules make it clear - the wheels may be subject to removal and inspection for cause, so plan accordingly. And we plan on carefully using precis...

Re: Car Crazy for 2011
The top blue car is based on the design from the Physics and the PWD video. Weight in the back is lead.. two zinc weights in the midsection are to balance out the COM just in front of the rear wheels. Lead on the red white and blue car and a mixture on the others. The large square weights are tire w...

Thanks for the compliments! I'll use the 'twitter' form of replying to the above questions.. I like it because it references the answer to the username without having to restate/quote the orig. @andy It's one of those maiesto collectibles.. Car Crazy for 2011
Last year, our district race was canceled so we had two bodies completed, painted and ready for wheels. Technically they were made 'last' year (not complete.. but still) so the boys wanted to make new cars for the race this year. http://lh5.ggpht.com/_2wlZQKDU62c/TTzoi6tJOHI/AAAAAAAAFBM/UEin2O9RntI/...

Pack Race Results!
My youngest Jaden (Tiger Cub) is in a newly formed pack. This was the first year for him, and for many of the boys in the pack. Was fun seeing how much things had changed since my days of PWD. Lots of help during the building process. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4027/4297790507_31fd94ee93_z.jpg h...
