Re: Purchasing an Automatic Start Gate
While our district had low turnout, we did do it last year. I would think, as long as the ondeck is showing, and you let them know to look at the next race, you may be able to pull it off.

Re: Purchasing an Automatic Start Gate
Coming to this a little late, but we did purchase a new best track and the ESS starter last year. It has now been used for 3 races (pack, and district last year, and pack this year). We have the remote start button fastened to something at the finish line (one of our dads has a bunch of old parking ...

Re: Racing mixed groups
We used this feature this year, since we have greatly differing sizes of dens. We put the Tigers (5), Web1 (3), and Web2 (4) in sub-groups of one group, then put the Wolves (14), and Bears (15) in their own groups. You have to run by times if you do this (as points would not really be fair anyways),...

Re: Pro Body Jig Modification
If only we could get them made that way to begin with, even if it was an option for double the price, it would be worth it to many.

Re: PN for Finals
If 13 is not correct, is there a place that will show what numbers do work with 6 lanes?

Re: PN for Finals
Not sure if you will read this in time, as I am leaving in a few minutes to setup, but on your page : http://www.stanpope.net/genframe.html, it seems to show a perfect-N (or complimentary perfect-N) 13-6. It seems to have 13 racers and 6 lanes over 26 races. Am I looking at it wrong?

PN for Finals
Max-V's article, and some info from this site has me wondering if I should re-evaluate our Pack's criteria for advancing to the finals. Due to highly varying numbers of boys in different ranks (3-16), we are combining 3 ranks into one group (each with a sub-group for awards) meaning we are doing tim...

Re: Seeking advice for derby length
I am somewhat in the same boat as you, as our dens are very unbalanced. We have 5, 13, 16, 3, 4 scouts for our ranks, as we had a couple of pretty good recruiting years. We have a 6 lane track, so the ones that do not even have 6, would not have even filled the track, and it would have been pretty a...

Re: Newbie assuming derby responsibility - much advice neede
I know we have a bigger track, but plan plenty of time. We heard the 2-3 hour time frame many times, but ours took like 8 hours total with 4-6 people working on it. For reference, we did get the 6 lane, 42' with lift and leveling kit, so it was more complicated, but do not plan just 2-3 hours and th...

Re: Sponsors at Districts?
I finally got my district to agree to a District race last year, but the turn out was not that good - 20 total from all 5 ranks, when we asked to limit to 3 per rank per pack. Everybody said the event was great (despite the turnout) and wanted me to do it again this year. As my youngest is now a Web...

Re: GPRM vs DerbyMaster. Opinions please?
Since this board was started by the creator of GPRM, it may be a little biased, but I have used several products in the past (not sure about derbymaster), and of everything I have tries/seem, GPRM is much cleaner, and easier, while being full functioned. Our pack has added pieces each of the last 2 ...

Re: How to Choose Best Looking?
Rukkian, you're on my side. I didn't see that coming. All I really want is to get rid of the Design category at the District level. Hopefully it would take away Dad's incentive to carve a Swiss Army Knife with blades and a cork screw that opens. Maybe he would talk with his son about speed. Wheneve...

Re: How to Choose Best Looking?
I do not agree with removing design awards, as the point of the pinewood really has nothing to do with the race imho. To me, the pinewood derby is about time spent between adult/child working together and learning together. The race, to me, is just the celebration of the time spent. Some kids (and t...

Re: Pack overall winner found to have violated rules
Like I said, I skimmed through the first time, and missed the wheelbase distinction. Under that, it would not be allowed. Personally, I do not like rules like this, as it drops creativity, and the ability to really put in work to figure out how to make things better. My boys have learned a lot over ...

Re: Pack overall winner found to have violated rules
With the format, that is hard to read on my computer, but I see nothing that mentions the distance between the wheels. It says you must use the slots, but does not say you cannot rearrange the car to move the slots further out. It is a relatively well known idea to cut the car in half, cut the large...
