Re: 2012 - Slick as Ice!

And that the girl in the photos has one on her face two. ;) I've been telling him for about 6 months its time for a haircut! He started growing it out to match some of the local hockey players that he admires. Now he is growing it out for locks of love. Don't worry, he was called a "she&...

2012 - Slick as Ice!

No secret that my son has the hockey bug. This year he thought he would combine the two things he enjoys the most into one. We race this weekend, so we will see how it goes. The pack uses a supertrack, so he has it as straight as possible. This is also the first year that he has broken the weight do...

Re: Chalk up another victory!

My reviews on the Supertrack as a first time racer. It was a cool experience. It definitely leads to a different build process. Lots of cars jumped lanes. Or the same cars jumped lanes a lot of times. There was a lot of zig zagging down the track that KILLED performance and was a lot more noticeable...

Chalk up another victory!

After changing packs after our little fiasco, my son got to race his car. After building the car, he spent some extra time on graphite, and got it EVERYWHERE! One would think that an added year would mean less mess. Not in this case. The car was pretty standard. Flat design, COM about 3/4 in front o...

Re: plates vs. cubes

This is our second year running plates. Why - They are available to us at the local hobby store and fit the boys design. He wanted to use cubes this year, but I never got around to ordering any. The thought was that he could get even more precise to where he placed the weight by using a |[ instead o...

Re: Is there a cost to victory? You bet!

Absolutely, a 0.5 GAA average and .968 save percentage (61 saves on 63 shots) across 4 games are numbers every goalie wants. We have no regrets and I only pray that he hits the lottery and gets one of the 1,000 or so college hockey scholarships that come available every year. We are a minimum of 10 ...

Re: Is there a cost to victory? You bet!

Thought I would throw an update out there: As one could imagine, The Pinewood Derby Committees (party of one) sons took first and second in the race this weekend. We had a great time at the tournament. My son collected three shutouts and gave up two goals in 4 games. Unfortunately, those two goals w...

Re: "Un" limited wheel possibilities?

That's what I was looking at. The dilemma is leaving the hub and then trying to get the rail rider effect, or remove the hub and go for a straight alignment.

Re: "Un" limited wheel possibilities?

I believe max-v and winderby both have comparisons on the v and H wheels. Seems like they each go a different direction there. :scratching: :D I think the razor mod would be the most challenging to him, as it is also going to increase the tuning time. That is where he started to lose interest last ...

"Un" limited wheel possibilities?

Looks like we off and running on a new pack with some new rules. After reviewing the rules he saw this "Wheels must be BSA official wheels -- wheel shaping IS ALLOWED this year. Sand away, folks!" He asked what that meant, and WHY?? It's completely new to him. In fact, I think the only rea...
