Our local Scout Store lets us hold 3-4 workshops per year on their front porch.
I bring tools and recruit volunteers, folks bring their own kits or buy ones from the shop.
This year, I didn't give away lead and folks mostly bought tungsten supplies right there at the store.
It really helped the store!

Would you sell the table of tools and supplies separately?

Re: Interested in feedback on some Harbor Freight tools
I would NOT buy a band-saw from Harbor Freight, and I buy some stuff from there.
Maybe a scroll saw.
Belt sander.. not risking much.

Sad,
But the Rules and how the race is run determines so much in a derby.
Glad you and the boy enjoyed making the cars... they sure did well.

Re: Do the "wafer" cars always win?
Two quick thoughts: - In our popular workshops, when I explain to Scouts and Parents about the shape of their proposed car, I always emphasize 'All Else Being Equal' the thin car wins. Then I look straight at the Cub and tell him 'Your car, your call'. - If the 4x6 sail on car experiement were re-do...

Maybe I should have the parents/kids make one of these for their car before starting? Good idea!

Re: Drilling canted axle holes with pro body tool
I want to get away from bending axles in the rear but I don't want to spend the money on a drill press. My advice: Get the Drill Press! Once you have one, you'll find a gazillion uses for it. A decent drill press would run $250 or less. I use a machinist' block, The Block, to drill nicely canted ax...

Re: Pack Race & Rule Question
Well, If those are your rules for this year... run with them. Next year should be a different story. Often, the rules writer(s) attempt to prohibit one action while allowing another while they would both do the same thing. Where possible, simplify the rules so that an 8 yr old would understand them....

It sounds like you're already doing a number of things quite well.

Re: Running 2 50 car races in 1 hour 15 min. Any Suggestions
I've recently had good results by inviting others to a well-run derby. A much Senior leader came to a Derby we ran, and will now recommend the same format to 10 other Packs. Perhaps you and the Cubmaster/Chair could go to another derby that races the clock? I also see that the start time, in the mid...

I've been getting by with Harbor Freight scales... accurate to 0.01oz and 'good enough for gov't work'.
