Very nice, Gregg. Looks like you have a real dynasty started. Good luck with the Mid-America Derby, we had a blast participating last years.

Re: Using Multiple Graphites

We used to use finer milled graphite for burnishing and large flake for racing. I don't know how much of a difference it really made. We were more concerned about getting other thing right such as alignment and COM.

Re: Thin car blues

Hmm, can't say I had that much trouble with mine. No chipping whatsoever following Sporty's tutorial. Part of the trick with routing is to not make your routing channels too deep. Rout 1/8" deep at one time. Then increase your depth and rout the next 1/8." Take your time routing through th...

Re: reversed axles

Really interesting design, but I don't know how much it's going to help you. If this is a rail runner, then theoretically, the only advantage of the DFW running against the nail head is in the period before the wheel contacts the center rail. Once the wheel contacts the center rail, the rail will pu...

Re: First teardown and best way to get epoxy off tungsten??

FWIW, the cost of tungsten is why I'm planning on running lead in my son's car for any pinewood races this scouting year. To me, a derby car represents a token of a lot of time invested between parent and child, and I am loathe to tear a car to pieces in order to reclaim some heavy metal from it. E...

Re: Late than never - Districts

Great stories. I agree, they should have raced off for first. Still, with the way they calculated first, it's hard to argue. It was definitely fair.

Congrats,

Re: a new way of looking at things

Those are some really cool looking cars. They also look very lightweight and well conceived. There's got to be a winner in there somewhere. You're already doing what the best PWD builders do: They put in the time and work harder than everyone else. The fact that you have so many well crafted cars is...
