Re: Race Times for a 42ft BestTrack
So many factors involving setup of the track will effect the time. I can tell you a few of us were running 3.00+ on the Wirl track in 2006 with BSA legal cars. That is with a standard size axle and BSA wheels, not the needle axles.

GPRM 7 group registration question.
I would like a suggestion on how to setup groups for the district race. We run the Ranks separately every 2 hours with the exception of the Webelos which we combine for racing purposes only. We still separate the Webelos 1 & 2 for awards and report purposes. I setup each rank as a group and use ...

If it was my car I would go with the Krytox. It is superior.

Re: How to prepare aluminum track for racing? Polish?
Some people have used stainless steel polish or furniture polish to clean their tracks which leave a residue. This could contribute to rear end wobble.
I personally prefer to run on a clean non polished surface.

Re: How Are Track Lengths Measured?
Actually the Piantedosi sections are 94", not 96" or 8'. Also the 40' Piantedosi does not include the length of the stopping section. The 42' Best track does.
The reasoning for the 94" sections is to be able to fit them into a case made from 8' plywood.

Re: District Race Quandry
I agree with you. The June date will be better. My experience is attendance will suffer on a Holiday weekend. Last year we held ours on Easter weekend and had a definite drop in attendance. Almost 70 of the preregistered boys were no shows. Hopefully next yearyou will be able to schedule your derby ...

Re: How to prepare aluminum track for racing? Polish?
I do. You don't want a shiny, slippery track. Several of us use a solvent cleaner, like denatured alchohol to clean the surface. Scratches can removed with a fine grit sandpaper and cleaned with the solvent.
Polishing is going to provide a slippery surface.

Re: Dampen start mod for BestTrack
Get some of the closed cell foam window insulation available at any Hardware store. It's the kind that when you compress it it is slow to return to form. It is sticky on one side and comes in different widths. This stuff is the best for solving this problem.

Re: Lathing Wheel Interiors
I put the wheel in the jaws of the self centering chuck, I prefer the 4 jaw chuck. I use a carbide cutter on a 1/4" bar and remove about .01" per pass. I do the inner wall before I do the inner tread. Keep the rpm's down or you will melt the plastic. I also true the outer tread surface bef...

Actually, it is about 31 feet due to the slope being a curve.

Re: QUESTION ON ARCH ; BEST TRACK VS PAINTEDOSI
The Best track does bring out a cars imperfections more than the gradual slope of the Piantedosi. A car tuned on a Best track should perform well on the Piantedosi track, but the reverse is not necessarily so.
The Best track length is 36' 11.5" start to finish.

Re: Extended Wheel Base?
I think you need to consider the meaning of the word "stock". I believe it implies as is. Meaning, not to alter the original specs. The block comes with a 4 3/8" wheel base. To extend it would be to modify it and thus be modified and not stock. In effect the Wirl stock class is really...

Re: Where to buy Krytox 100?????
I suggest either the 1 oz or 1/2 oz needle bottle of GPL-100 Krytox oil. 1 ounce was $21.00 when I bought it last year.
