Re: Yet another Arduino based track timer....
Hello all, I've moved all of the timer resources to my new website: https://www.dfgtec.com/pdt The main benefit of the new website is that it is mobile ready - basically it is usable on phones or tablets. (If you ever tried using the old site on a phone you will know what an improvement this is.) Al...

Supplies for sale (tools, materials, parts, etc.) - SOLD
*** SOLD *** Hello all, My son finished cub scouts a few years ago and we're just getting around to cleaning out our old supplies. Some of these we used yearly, some not at all. Most of the car parts (bodies, prepped wheels/axles, fenders, etc.) were door prizes from different races he attended. $1...

Re: Lasers as better finish-line emitters?
Namely, how most timers are affected by large amounts of ambient light. Sunlight, camera flashes, etc, seem to have the potential to oversaturate the light sensors and prevent them from detecting when a car has crossed the finish line. I always knew this was an issue but I was still amazed when I w...

Re: Yet another Arduino based track timer...
Had a GPRM user that was running into trouble using the software with your timer. I did notice that the GPRM settings on your website list a Retrieve Data command. That command is not necessary if the timer will send the results to the computer automatically after the heat is over. I had the user r...

Re: Yet another Arduino based track timer...
Very cool! I also heard you were onhand to help with the Guinness Book world record attempt, so props for that too! Thanks! It was a lot of fun to be involved in that effort. Here's a picture of the timer I built for them: http://www.miscjunk.org/mj/images/pdt_WRPDT_2.jpg A few interesting notes of...

Re: Yet another Arduino based track timer...
Hello all, It took longer than expected but I've finally finished a huge update to the PDT - I'm calling it the Halloween update. :D Over the last couple of years there have been numerous custom configurations that I've helped people with and I've finally added the best of them as general configurat...

Re: Be part of History - in setting the World Record !!!
Do you know if the risk has been checked out? Sounds like it would take more than a few minutes to rectify if not discovered until after the first test run on race day! Hi Stan - sorry for the delayed response. Greg had asked me to build a customized version of my Arduino based timer to use on thei...

Re: Be part of History - in setting the World Record !!!
What about the voltage drop on the wire from start gate to finish line? Might also be waveform distortion. 2000 ft of wire could be an issue. Or has this been tested and proven okay... no "repeaters" required along the pathway? The voltage drop isn't an issue. 2000' feet of wire has a resistance of...

Re: Automated Car Photo Capture
Very cool! Thanks for sharing. I have a Raspberry Pi but I haven't done much with it - I should give this a try.
How well does the small lightbox work? I've been thinking about getting one. Do you have a car photo you can share?
Thanks,
David

Re: Yet another Arduino based track timer...
My question is: how do you protect the IR receiver? What type of track do you have? For a BestTrack track and I'm assuming most metal tracks the method shown on the PDT construction page should work pretty well (scroll down to the emitters/detectors section): http://www.miscjunk.org/mj/pg_pdt_info1...
