Statistical Error???
I got this message at the end of the race and my statistical analysis skills are lacking since college. “There is a 99.9% chance that timing anomalies exist in Round 1 of the Webelos 1 Group. All racers in these heats achieved their fastest time of the round: Heat 10 If this was not due to any inter...

Grounding of Track
It has been recommended to ground your track to eliminate static charge and interference with the timer. Usually these tracks are set up in the middle of a large space, far from any pipe or something to ground too. What about using a plug with a ground, but only hook up the ground? You could then at...

Re: Looking for current opinions of timer brands
The Judge has a new transponder for those of us who use software. Has anyone had any experience with it. It's new, so I'm wondering?

Re: How do packs raise funds for timers?
I took our old timer and case, took some blue duct tape and made a display out of it and the case. I put a sign on it, "donations for derby timer", at our Blue-Gold banquet. After all the problems at this derby race with our timer, we knew it would be fresh on their minds. LOL Anyway, I ha...

Re: Electronic Interference Prevention
Could a large amount of cell phones cause problems? I and another pack have had similar problems of having everything working the night before the event and then the day of the event get crazy readings. We made sure everything was the same. Amps mics, overhead lights, etc were the same. We don't thi...

Re: Yet another Arduino based track timer...
Not to add anymore challenges but could wireless be added to send times and place to grand prix? Since there is so much interference that can happen between the timer and sensors, would there be less variables sensitive to interference if you could keep all timer operations close to the sensors. Of...

Re: Derby disaster!!!
After the race, we sat around and discussed that it was actually a lot of fun racing the ole time way with trying to get 4 judges to agree on who won. We used the replay software, but my camera's shutter speed isn't adjustable and we didn't have very clear images of the finish. We had one parent tak...

Derby disaster!!!
Murphy's law was in full force at our derby this weekend. Timer was working when we set up Friday night, but the next morning nothing but eratic times. We replaced sensors, gate switches and came to the conclusion that our timer was the problem. We ended up using nothing but race replay and the huma...

Re: Driver Photo Orientation
After having to take pictures independently of DMV another feature that would be nice is the ability to crop/scale a photo that you take for use. The person taking the pictures this year, took them in landscape and I had to crop them down, plus resize to 640.480 in a seperate program, then bring the...

I'm playing around with DMV, Replay and GPRM in my shop, but I'm wondering how this will all work at the church we will be using. Since there is typically only one overhead projector, how do we utilize Replay? I would have thought once the race was over, the video file, through the network, would pl...

Phototransistor location
What's the consensus of how you should mount the transistors? Low in a narrow tunnel to avoid ambient light, or higher where more light can get to it. The transistors work well with incandescent bulbs or white LEDs, if the light source is directly over the hole. The derby timer.com website recommend...
