Re: Weight Placement
Yes, Black Fox, the 2nd picture with the weights close together is similar to how I taught my boys to do it. Also, Speedster is right. Cut off the extra wood in back (if allowed by your rules). We do that. We use a craft stick as a front wing, epoxied in (2-part 5-minute epoxy) for strength, instea...

Thanks All
Thanks everyone for your help. My son and I both took first place for speed in our pack. http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd264/blackfox-111/3ca060db8f470231048820862dcdfdf8_zpse051a0e0.jpg My son's car is in the middle and mine is on the left. The car on the right is the same car design he built ...

Packing Graphite
Gents I came across a web site that sells a tool for packing graphite into your wheels. If you're running in a race where you're not allowed to lube your car between races. They claim packing the axle whole in the wheel will make the graphite last longer, thus allowing your car to run faster for a l...

Re: Weight Placement
Gents Thanks for all good info. However, I have to admit that the closer I get to physic equations, the more my brain hurts. It works better for me if I can see something. So I've added some pictures to help. First are some pictures of the track we are using. Unfortunately I don't have one that show...

Test Track
By any chance does anyone have an aluminum track within 100 of Dublin, CA that I could do some test runs on?

Re: Weight Placement
Hi Shawn
Okay now I understand. Interesting theory. Maybe this might be more advantageous on an aluminum track which generally have a sharper bend. I'll have to give this some thought. Also, never thought about shortening the back end too. Very interesting.

Changing Password
Gents
I had to get a temporary password a few days ago. However, I would like to change it with something I can remember more easily. I assumed I could do this under user control panel but I don't see it and I can't find it anywhere else. How can I change my password.

Re: Weight Placement
Hi Stan I figured it would be easier to explain if I took some photos. The first picture is the weight configuration I was planning to use. My understanding from reading other people comments is that for the best results I should have my weights as low as possible with as much weight in the back whi...

Weight Placement
Gents I've been reading other threads on COG. I came across a comment by Shawn Stembleton in regards to weight placement. Mr. Stembleton says: "For the Best Track profile, you want the weight compressed front-to-back in as little area as possible. It has to do with rotational inertia of the ent...

Re: Center Of Gravity
We have to use a standard wheel base. And the axle holes have been drilled with the Jewkes block with the rear wheels canted.

Center Of Gravity
Greetings Gents My sons in the process of building his PWD car for Cub Scout. Just need a little refresher on the CG. I know 5/8 to 3/4 in front of the rear axle on a standards wheel base is ideal. His is currently a little less that 5/8. I know if its too short your rear end will start to wiggle. S...

COG Advice
Greeting Gents
I need a quick memory refreshing about COG (Center of Gravity). I know on a standard BSA wheel base the COG is about 3/4~1 inch forward of the axle. On an extended wheel base is the COG still the same?
Thanks

Re: Derby Doc-2
Gentlemen Thanks for your help. I finally received the items I ordered almost a month after I placed my order. Not once did I ever received a reply explaining or apologizing for the delay. All I got was a notice saying the order was sent on Dec. 22nd. There were a few other issues that I mentioned b...

Well There has been some progress. I did get an email saying the order was shipped. No tracking number though. We'll just have to wait and see.
