Re: Strange derby this year!

Just to clarify: the Boy Scout helping in the work area was unable to get the existing wheels out and they took off after a few failed tries. There was some clear glue on the axles - I'm guessing epoxy and all four axles were clearly visible through the glue. No adult was given the chance to help be...

Re: Does your pack own a laptop?

We had a loaner from a particular family for a few years in a row; they eventually offered to just donate it to the pack, however I declined. The issue was that there was no safe place to store it guaranteeing that it would be safe, and would be in good shape for the race next year. I like Stan's US...

Re: Question regarding wheel mod-eliminating round bump mold

AlanB - I see you are in the Pgh area - are you in Seneca District? Seems like you have the same district rules we have. The mold projection referred to in those rules reflects pre-2009 era wheels. I'm guessing that you're referring to the "fake tread" dots which go all the way around the ...

Re: Strange derby this year!

See other thread: http://www.derbytalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=7428&p=71335#p71335" target="_blank It raced, but was damaged (mostly by the parent) in the process of trying to pass inspections. It did not place - even at the den level. However the cub did come away with a den-leve...

Re: Strange derby this year!

There was a longer (and slightly sad) story. Ultimately he had to go get a kit and went to a hobby store and got a "Pine Car" kit. I've seen these in stores, and we are clear to parents that they are not allowed, however he was NOT at that meeting and didn't read the rules carefully enough...

Re: Registration tonight - suspect car / notched raised whee

Can you share the rules/language you use to *require* Cub participation? We have this in the preamble to our rules, however it is not explicitly stated. I'd be very interested in seeing how you write this up and enforce it - and will seriously consider putting something like that in next year's rule...

Re: Registration tonight - suspect car / notched raised whee

Sorry about that - something strange in SmugMug's permissions. I actually had the gallery set to NOT require a password. That doesn't seem to be working, so, the password is "derby".

Here's the link again: http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-KPxsJ" target="_blank

Strange derby this year!

Thought I'd share a few notes from the strangest derby in seven years I've been involved: This was the FIRST YEAR we had a den where every single cub showed up. We have a fairly big Pack and that's never happened in Pack memory (which admittedly is at best 4-10 years). We had Derby patches left over...

Re: Registration tonight - suspect car / notched raised whee

Hi all- Thanks for your feedback thus far. Here are the promised pictures of the wheel. In all photos, the wheel on the LEFT is the suspect wheel with the notch. The wheel on the RIGHT is straight out of the box. http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-KPxsJ" target="_blank Sorry for the bad pict...

Re: Registration tonight - suspect car / notched raised whee

Thanks, all- I'll get a photo of the wheel up as soon as I can. Left it in a box at the facility and didn't think to take a picture before I left for home. I've been struggling to describe the notch - this is one case where the picture would be way better than the proverbial 1000 words. We also adde...

Registration tonight - suspect car / notched raised wheel

Just curious if anyone has an idea on a car we passed through registration tonight - after more than an hour of deliberations. As a quick background, we register all cars one night, keep them in the "PIT" overnight, and race first thing the next morning. Our local district rules require th...

Any way to tweak Perfect N Scheduling...?

I've been notified by a Webelos II parent that four of the boys in that group may have to leave our Derby early as they have a backetball game. I'm racing the entire pack in one big race with perfect-N scheduling. Is there any way to tweak the system so that races with those four boys happen on the ...

GPRM "legacy race" setup

We've been using GPRM for the past three years and could not be more happy with how well it has been running! We run the entire pack as one big race, followed by what we call a "grand finale" where the top three finishers from each den compete for the top three places in the Pack. I unders...

Re: Pinewood Derby Rules

We have rules which state that the car must be based on the block of wood from the kit, and only BSA wheels and axles may be used. Nevertheless we never directly addressed prohibiting the Revel kits due to unenforcability. In practice these kits seem to be used by car building teams with fewer techn...
