Re: Wheels Rules

Thanks for all the replies. Good info.

Maybe we should go with the 1.180. It sounds like we should also explicitly say "No purchased wheels are allowed". The idea is to eliminate the purchased wheel. Axles are another story...for another thread.

Re: Wheels Rules

That's good stuff. Thanks! Anyone else use a similar number? Do you feel that 1.170 is generous and would allow someone to lightly sand while prohibiting most purchased lathed wheels?

Wheels Rules

Our pack would like to tighten down on purchased wheels and someone has proposed the following rule be installed: "Beveling, rounding, tapering, thinning, perforating, weight reduction or any other altering of the weight, size and shape of the wheel is PROHIBITED AND WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. (Rem...

Re: Rail Riding Questions (Conflicts)

Yes, I would also like to hear the 3.5 degree reply also. (Please post it)

In the future, I will start a new post. Sorry for any confusion! We were just excited to get the information and the answers were great.

Re: Rail Riding Questions (Conflicts)

OK, I built my own set of axle pliers that work pretty well. Simple, but cheap. We took an old pair of needlenose that had some grooves on the jaws. We counted in 10 grooves and cut the groove deeper with a cutoff wheel using the Dremel tool. Then we did the other side. Once the grooves were in plac...

Re: Rail Riding Questions (Conflicts)

Thanks Guys! I really appreciate the references. As a newbie to the site, even though you search, it's tough to find all these tidbits. So much good info! I feel much better about our chances of adjusting our bent axles now. I will try to make a pair of "axle pliers". If that doesn't work,...

Re: Rail Riding Questions (Conflicts)

Sounds like drilling is the way to go, however we have already drilled our axle holes and don't have the time to remake the car. (We also don't have any more access to the drill press) We have purchased the Rail Rider tool for bending the axles. You mentioned the "alignment nightmare". Wou...

Re: Rail Riding Questions (Conflicts)

OK. Thanks guys for helping to clear that up! Much appreciated!!

What is the best thing to do with the wheel that is off the track? Do you use a camber on it as well to try to keep it away from the rail?

Re: Rail Riding Questions (Conflicts)

Hmmm...that's what I read elsewhere, but here is the confusing part. The Rail Rider tool advises 1.5 for the front, but it also tells you to mark the axle before you bend it. Then it tells you to put the marks at 12 o'clock...which would indicate the same camber as the back wheels. Am I reading this...

Rail Riding Questions (Conflicts)

This is my son's third year and haven't had too much success (yet!). This year we are doing a ton of reading and came across this site. All of the advice seems great, but there seems to be some conflicting info we could use clarification on. Any help would be appreciated! Some background: - Aluminum...
