Re: Anyone else notice 2013-14 BSA blocks are NOT 1.75" wide

but since you index to the bottom of the bullet and not the sides
I think I was missing that point, since all the videos on you tube show the pine block sliding into the aluminum fixture.

Thanks for clarifying that.

Re: Anyone else notice 2013-14 BSA blocks are NOT 1.75" wide

I have 3 kits for this season. Same style box as you describe with the Valuable Coupon Inside All my Date Codes are identical to yours. The flap reads 2013-06 B356 888 K56893 The codes stamped into the side of the block read 0L13 (maybe not "L" but upside down 7) 0613 0613 The blocks all r...

Re: Anyone else notice 2013-14 BSA blocks are NOT 1.75" wide

My blocks are all undersized compared with yours.

How "small" can a block be before it won't be held tightly in the silver bullet?

"Ribbon" Cars

Do you think if we built a "cause" ribbon car, that it would violate the rules for no springs allowed? Think Aids Ribbon, Yellow Soldier Ribbon, etc. and the amount of flex that would be at the back end of the ribbon. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yellow_ribbon [and see the image in the upp...

Re: Who sells the best balsa?

I found this place while I was looking for some round balsa for space rocket derby:

http://www.specializedbalsa.com/index.php

They list different grades (weights) but charge for it.

Hope this helps.

Thank you. The 0.228" was the dimension I was looking for.

Wheel Step Diameter

Does anyone have a good measurement for the diameter of the outside step on the 2009 wheels?

I would describe it as the raised portion of the step, or right where the spokes end towards the center of the wheel.

Thank you, sirs.

"Slim" Cars

Does anyone build "slim cars?" This would be where the body of the car is very narrow and uses thin "fins" to get the wheels out to the appropriate 1.75" spacing. The body of the car would look like this from the top: http://www.zimbio.com/pictures/EoNGXyOcaf6/Olympics+Day+5...

Love the digital camo. Did you use a stencil or did you freehand mask that pattern?

Re: I wish there were more Big Rigs

I too picked up a big rig kit with the same intention as you, scavenge the wheels. But after seeing your result, I may just have to build it.

Congratulations on an awesome build!

Re: This year's axles

My polished axles are down at 0.084.

Looks like I need to measure the Chinese axles and the USA axles and see how large they were to start. I may be too aggressive with my sanding.

Re: This year's axles

As a follow-up question, what is the finished diameter of the axles that I should be aiming for? (how small is too small?)

And for some comedic relief, here's why I don't use the file any more:

This year's axles

Our axle prep starts wtih 400 grit. (I used to take a file to the axles, but we have since revised our technique.) Nothing coarser than 400 grit touches the axles we mount to the car. The issue is, it is taking a very long time with the 400 grit to get all traces of the "crimp marks" off t...
