Re: Bushy Run District 2014 Cub races

After all of this, its funny, we were prepared to lose to your son but not to anyone else because of the history from last year (1 vs 3 rematch!!!). Totally forgot about the 2nd place dad/cub team from last year. So yeah its fitting they won 1st. Wasn't a fluke. Was really hoping for a 1,2 finish fo...

Re: Bore wax, burnish, or both?

I have seen as much as .03 gains as a result of correctly applying wax and then burnishing with graphite. We only polished and burnished and took third at districts. The difference between 3rd and 1st place was 0.024sec. NOW YOU GUYS TELL ME ABOUT WAXING!!! What is the process order? 1 polish...

Re: Bushy Run District 2014 Cub races

My son came in 4th. He said "Are you kidding???" He is a good sport about it. We figured out that if his third run (lane 1) had been halfway between the times of his first two runs, he would have won 1st, all other things being equal. That is what an alignment that is just off a bit can d...

Re: Bushy Run District 2014 Cub races

Did some further digging...I really need to convert this energy into something more productive...like a new Mid America Car!! Anyway, did some more research on the past Bushy Run champs, That being Shawn's and Johns boys. Please chime in if incorrect guys. Only other nice fact to have would be COM b...

Re: Bushy Run District 2014 Cub races

OK! Doing some detective work by looking at photos of the district race winners holding their cars and my son describing the cars to me "money car" and radioactive car" below are pics of the 1st and 2nd place winners. The first place "money" car is definitely a RR, the Left ...

Re: Bushy Run District 2014 Cub races

Very interesting. They should do as our pack and have a set of heats for the top 3 cars to award the trophies. But yeah to not even ackowledge it in front of everyone doesn't seem right. Just curious Shawn, which way did you guys set up your drift? Ride left or right guide edge? Drift left or right....

Ha! Very true Stan, but its easier on my ego if I blame the track. How dare someone else make a rr! :burningmad:

Re: Critiquing a critique of rail riding.

I posed this question on my sour grapes post yesterday where my son's rr car finished 3rd at districts. "It was the track's fault!" Haha. But maybe this question fits here. Based on track condition meaning center rail is a jagged mess. At what point is a rr ineffective or at least a wash w...

Re: Bushy Run District 2014 Cub races

Hey Shawn. Thanks for posting the times. I was looking for you last night. I think we were both on the balcony since we were up there and issac was looking up there as well. Oh well. Yeah it was a humbling night for us as well. But we still had a great time. I do think its time for a new track for d...

Re: Announcing Mid America Pinewood Derby 2014

Greg You convinced me that until there is a usa standard rule book(never happen) your cuurent approach is about as good as it gets. It then comes down to what each entrant wants to get out of the experience. Meaning for us folks who take this pwd thing way too seriously... need to rebuild. But for t...

Re: Thinking of entering Mid America Open Scout Division?

You are gonna make me enter the adult race as well. We did make a backup be a shame not to see what she can do. You guys are gonna have to give me some tips on oil and better wheel and axles. Going outside the bsa kit/graphite is all new to me.

Re: Announcing Mid America Pinewood Derby 2014

Greg and Birddog, You guys make valid points. It goes beyond just soil vs. graphite to be competitive in the offered classes. I guess my optimum scenario would be for a scout to build a standard wheel base car, BSA axles-wheels (polish sand only), and graphite, then the scout/dad watch it advance th...

Re: Announcing Mid America Pinewood Derby 2014

I agree 100%, but I'm biased since we have a graphite car ready to roll. Someone brought up before that there at probably more graphite scout cars out there than oil. I tend to believe that...but with no data to back it up.
