Re: COM tips wanted

Stan thanks for your reply. How much energy, relative to all energy losses, is lost due to variations in moments of inertia? I would think that if you normally place your center of mass at a certain point, your mass is normally placed in the same general location anyways. I would then guess that the...

Re: COM tips wanted

You have too much wood in your body. You want at least 3.6 ounces of added weight in the car. Please explain this theory of yours to me? How can you have too much wood in your car? Why does it matter where your weight is if you COM is where you want it? If your COM is where you want it, and you are...

Re: Latch for track start gate

Awesome concept! Please post with results and if you don't care pictures of actual wiring and parts list. Personally, I think it is better to train the start gate operator not to close the gate while cars are running. There should be no bumps or vibration imparted to the track while cars are running...

Re: Adding a Friction Brake to an Old Track

Thanks to all on Derby Talk I added a friction brake to a old SuperTrack that had one of the old hard foam stop end sections. We didn't try the new SuperTrack memory foam stop section because we were still not sure a hard stop section was a good idea, even though it looks as though it may be better ...

Re: Hexagonal Boron Nitride (hBN) White Graphite?

One advantage, no black mess all over everything. Wipe yours hands on your pant leg and it disappears. :D I believe you found the only advantage I found. I wondered with this advantage, seeing as it comes off easily, that it doesn't serve well to lubricate pinewood axles because it comes off of the...

Re: Best Track -- "Click, Click"

Our other problem from the suggestions above .. Really hard to find a room that will fit a 49 foot track If room size is the issue I would either only build as big as your room and check out individual joints (switching out sections until you find the bad joints) or check around your group and see ...

Re: Best Track -- "Click, Click"

Take the track out of storage ample time before your next race and do some test runs. If after doing some test runs with your track, you can't figure out how to eliminate the "click, click", take some pictures and or video and post on here. My guess is that after doing some test runs you c...

Re: What camera do you use with Race Replay?

Thanks! If you don't mind sharing what camera and what video capture device? Was the image projected for others to see? Were the results good/great? The camera I used met your minimum requirements and results were poor. I know that it isn't the fault of the software, but I am interested in knowing w...

What camera do you use with Race Replay?

What camera are you guys using with Race Replay? Do your project your video onto a screen or do you show it on a TV? I recently ran a race this weekend and was disappointed with my camera. I did look at the specs recommended by Race Replay, but I didn't have the time or money to buy a new camera. Th...

Re: What can cause the track to gouge the inside of car whee

My two cents says that it was most likely the fault of the track sections being misaligned at the joints (which I believe was said before). I ran a race this weekend with an aluminum track. While we were setting up the track and testing out the lanes (before the racing) we had a very similar acciden...

Re: Hexagonal Boron Nitride (hBN) White Graphite?

Thank you both for your reply (Stan and MaxV). I have also searched and searched and can not find any friction versus pressure results. I did find a report (note from a retailer/manufacturer of hBN) that seemed to have good results. Here is the link to the data. http://www.silicones.com/momentiveInt...

Hexagonal Boron Nitride (hBN) White Graphite?

Does anybody have experience with Hexagonal Boron Nitride (hBN) "White Graphite"? Local American Heritage girls pack is requiring white graphite because of the fears of the mess (gray/black/normal to me) graphite leaves. I am assuming that I don't want to use the BSA White Teflon Dry Lube ...
