Re: Lucky 7

Ryan had his district race yesterday and finished 2nd. We had a lower turnout than expected which was disappointing but the competition was very challenging. With the exception of a couple cars that were there primarily for craft all of the heats were extremely close. This particular heat was won by...

Re: How Not to Run A Pinewood Derby Event

Well said Eracer and I agree with you very much. We have the same goals for our Pioneers. It just seems a shame that the rules have become so complex and detailed that I doubt a lot of the kids would understand some of them on there own. It would be nice if it could be as simple as here is...

Re: How Not to Run A Pinewood Derby Event

I find all the rules related discussions very interesting. If I understand correctly, the intent with rules as they pertain to wheels is to keep everyone on a level playing field in terms of the tools and equipment needed to be competitive. So the guys with mini-lathes or deep pockets to buy afterma...

Re: Inadvertent three wheeler

The 2nd car that my son and I ever built was an accidental 3 wheeler which is a pretty good trick since his Boy Pioneers group uses the Pinecar kits with one piece axles. At first I was looking at it like wth did we do here. :wall: Then something clicked  hey this might work. Obviously, this a...

Re: 2009 to present

Thanks. Pretty basic compared to some of the cars on the forum but we had fun building and racing them and have definately been inspired for next year's car. In fact, we may build one in the off season just for fun. Learned about cutting off the end of the block and adding it too the front, among ot...

2009 to present

We were looking at some old photos and ran across some from my son's first pinewood derby race. Man was he a cut little buddy. :D So we got the cars out and starting looking/comparing. From left to right, 2009, 2010, 2011. My son was really into the spoiler the first couple years because they "...

Re: "Pinecar" brand wheel modification help

Thought I would share how the car ended up running. Ryan unded up as overall speed champion out of about 50 cars. I think the lightened wheels are what put him over the top. There was some extremely tough competition this year all from cars with lightened wheels. These cars literally seemed to jump ...

Re: Not Just for Race Day

Perhaps moving it from the Coordianator's Corner would make more people feel more comfortable commenting. I have read posts in this area but as someone who merely builds and attends I didn't want to overstep. But, since I'm here... Our pastor had a very good devotion before our race on Sunday which ...

Re: Lucky 7

Thanks guys. Yea, the shirt was dad's idea. Ordered a shirt online with his car's name and added some patches. It was a raceday surprise for him. I am anxious to see the race times posted so I can look at the data. He happened to see the stats for the overall champion heats and noted that he won by ...

Re: "Pinecar" brand wheel modification help

I ended up making 7 wheels using this process: Shaved the tread exterior usinng the wheel shaver and hub tool. Worked pretty well and got us down to 3.4 grams per wheel. We then bored out some of the material inside the wheel on the drill press which got us down to 1.75 grams per wheel. After a litt...

Re: Hello and thank you

There is nothing like the feeling of watching your son experience success. And while success is not always measured by victories, the vicitories do make make it sweet. Congrats to you and your son. :bigups:

My son's race is in two days. Wish us luck. :eager:

Thanks. Now we just need to perfect the process and do four of them. Should be done some time next month. ;)
