Re: Best Track -- "Click, Click"

So we got our Best Track assembled, same type of issues as you described. I even had some test cars jump out of their lanes. I disassembled the entire coasting section and got out my micrometers. While most of the section guides measure 1.625 inches, about 20% of my track measured up to 1.632 inches...

Hmmmmm, AHhhhhhh!

I see what your getting at.

Well, I'm going to have to kick that around with the staff and see what they think.

Re: Prayer Request

Thanks Guys, it means a lot.

Track is sorted finally. I had to take the coast sections completely apart, measure with a micrometer the center rails, size match and reassemble. No more cars jumping out of the lanes.

Volunteers seem to be materializing.

Setup on Friday, push push push to the end!

Prayer Request

I have a prayer request of my fellow Christians and Brothers in Pine Derby. Our Pine Car Derby is March 3 2013. We are expecting 400 entries. We have 17 clubs confirmed. As the Race Director, I am stressed. Volunteers have been hard to find. Conflicts seem to continue to rise even though the venue h...

Re: RaceReplay w/ USB 3.0 cameras

Just because you have a 3.0 port does not mean you need 3.0 camera. We have been getting HD with 2.0 USB just fine for years. You limit is going to bee the 16 foot max length of USB cabling. 3.0 ports are backward compatible with 2.0 and 1.1. Logitech has nice HD web cams for $40-$80 depending on th...

Re: 4 wheels do not touch the ground

Another approach would be to expand the rule. The rule would stipulate no axles may be glued in. If you can't dump the bad rule because of politics, then maybe fix it from the inside. I do not see a way to fix a glued axle. Has anyone tried to bend an axle with MaxVeloc axle pliers? And after bendin...

Re: Triggering a Light Tree or Solenoid from a USB Port

I would also suggest a possible solution-work around. Build a relay with supplement 12v power for the solenoid. The draw on the USB power could overload the motherboard. It would be safer to isolate the computer USB in any case. If your PC has a serial port, the specs for that were designed to drive...

Re: How many lanes should I get?

I would like to put in my vote for 6 lanes. As a Cub and later a Pathfinder (ages 10-16) I always enjoyed more trips down the track. In those days we did double elimination, no timers just judges. Now as an adult, I still believe the kids get more enjoyment seeing their car race more times. I unders...

Re: Cant and Toe

I'm not sure why the toe would change on the slope vs the flat. The same surface of the wheel is touching the track, and the alignment has not changed. Your concern is not an issue as far as a "changing toe" goes. Canting the axle does not introduce toe. It does encourage the wheel to ride...

Re: Improving the stop section

An interesting note about "memory foam". It has been found that memory foam absorbs energy in relationship to speed. The motorcycle industry uses it as flexible armor in protective pants and jackets. At high velocity it becomes ridged an yet softens as the velocity slows. I have tested thi...

I am holding off on investing in a solenoid starting gate until I see the plans for the car return and the automatic car loader.

Re: Best Track Storage Box

We bought the 6 lane. I used the website plans as the start and built 2 boxes as suggested. I am great for "overkill" but I am planning on driving the track to other locations in a trailer and need to be sure it is protected. I built a "crate". The edges are wood reinforced and t...

Re: WANTED: Recommendations for Derby Award Ribbons

Thank you for the suggestion!!! That is a great sight for custom ribbons at a reasonable price.

I recommend anyone that is in charge of ordering ribbons to bookmark the sight as a strong contender.

WANTED: Recommendations for Derby Award Ribbons

Specifically looking for acknowledgment of CRAFTSMANSHIP in quantities of 200+

So far the best I got is $0.29 per after s&h and the ribbon says "I take Pride in my work!"

Any better ideas/sources?

Thank you!
