Re: wheel wax
I used to put a couple drops of oil into the wheel hub with the axle in the wheel. That was too much oil. When I started just wiping the oil in the hub and into axle it was significantly faster

Re: wheel wax
For axles I polish them as smooth as I can then clean them with 91% alcohol. When they’re certainly dry I check them with a magnifying glass and blow off any lint. Then, I poke them into cardboard close enough where I can cover all of them at once with the cap from my 3M spray. I spray the axles wit...

Re: wheel wax
If you’re looking for something in place of Jig I like 3M Dry-Type Silicone. It goes on very thinly and is crystal clear.
I buy it from NAPA. We had fast cars with it.

Re: wheel wax
I’m not sure what Vitamin K will recommend but he is a smarter builder than I. I believe the Novis is to simply polish the bore. After polishing the bores, and front and rear hub faces, I cleaned them out with 91% alcohol and let them dry. Then I polished them with Red Rocket twice. My understanding...

Re: Cutting grooves in side of car where wheel edge might touch
Our last 3 cars all had these grooves like you made. First, it is most needed when using BSA axles. They are smaller diameter and allow some slop in the hub. If you run a steep angle on DFW and 3 degree angle on rear axles you will get contact between wheel edge and body unless you use washers. We r...

Re: The BSA nail
1) We would square our drill press table front to back and side to side. 2) Put axle in chuck just as far as it would be in the block of wood with a wheel. ( If you don't slide into chuck far enough the axle will bend during following steps) 3) Using a file that is smooth on edge we would file down ...

Awesome Speedster.
Off topic yes. I had sent you a PM but it must not have gone through.
Good to see you still here doing this for the kids, and adults.

Re: Lightnin's Simple Alignment Test
I remember you telling me that years ago about helping a kid out with a fast car every year. Don't other parents complain? I was asked by the pack we were with to have a "fix it" table at the race. The kids would get 2 trial runs before they had to complete check-in. A few kids came to me ...

Speedster,
Are you helping the local kids prep for their races? Is it just scouts or are you finding other avenues to help also?

Re: Lightnin's Simple Alignment Test
We used this method for years ever since LB showed us how. It seems dead on. We use a balled up piece of duct tape under the front of the car, in the dead center between the axle holes. We ball it up to get to the same height as the car sits with the DFW installed. The duct tape stays stuck to the s...
