Re: Centering wheels on a drill press

The Devcon putty is good stuff, the titanium filled is drillable and hard but pretty expensive. McMaster Carr sells it. You might try making your own filled epoxy. Glass beats... bronze filings etc. Since you are rebuilding the wheel you might as well glue in a brass tube and make a proper bushing. ...

Re: No slip safety tape for stop section ?

An option to tape is 2 beads of silicone RTV. After it cures you can trim it flat with a knife if needed. Looks like a railroad track and won't peel up when it gets a couple years old.

Re: USB to Serial Adapters

Good luck on the Bluetooth, I tried an IOGear RS232 to Bluetooth converter and eventually gave up on it. It would only work sporadically. You can still buy serial port cards for PCs but if you want a Laptop with serial port you have to get a Panasonic Toughbook. I'm using the FTDI chip for my RS232 ...

Re: Cubic inch of lead weighs?

I don't know much about these rare elements Stan but the plutonium would certainly keep the Krytox warm!

Always fun to dream about exotic weights... The densities (approximate values at room temperature) of some of the heaviest metals are as follows: Metal Density (g/cm3) Iridium 22.65 Osmium 22.61 Platinum 21.09 Rhenium 21.02 Neptunium 20.45 Plutonium 19.82 Gold 19.30 Tungsten 19.25 Lead 11.34 Copper ...

Re: Cars Slowing Down Every Run

Thanks doct1010, I tend to be a bit of a blow hard sometimes and it really is not my nature. I'm still using my original $20 bottle of SB-10. When it runs out I'll have to try Krytox 100!

Re: Cars Slowing Down Every Run

I guess I stuck me neck out on this one. I least I didn't get an argument on the silicone! I have not had the opportunity to try Krytox 100. Being a lighter oil I'd just expect it to run away... I stand corrected. Stan, as for graphite lasting well, I wasn't saying it was particularity fast, j...

Re: Know of any good bandsaws?

If you are cutting aluminum you might want to consider a circular saw blade made for soft metals. I have one for cutting Al/Cu, brass and it does a great job. Fast and clean cuts. Blades are pricey though.

Re: Running outdoors

All good suggestions, to test it I would swing a pencil quickly across the hole a 1/2" above the track. Test each sensor separately, they all should pick it up easily. It's best to test when he sun is highest in the sky. You may want to paint the underside of the bridge and side supports black ...

Re: Cars Slowing Down Every Run

I would expect the lighter lubes to slow first. Silicone is fast but wears out in a long race, SB-10 (Krytox 104?) lasts longer than silicone but Krytox 100 may not. Properly conditioned graphite lasts the longest. I always explain this to the parents and cubs and let them chose between silicone and...

Re: Safe ways to remove crimp marks on axle shaft ?

First I take off the crimp marks near the point using a belt sander so I can chuck them in the Dremel. This file will take off the crimp near the head by sliding it into the head using a slow speed. After cant is formed I use some 600 sandpaper under the file to do a little smoothing of both shaft a...
