Re: So your scout race is done for the year, Whats next ?

For my son and I Mid America Derby is next. I am no where near ready, trying to get my dailey driver back together. Then I have to clean the garage and get working on our two cars, and build one more. Then I plan on doing some league racing at NPWDRL. I will start in the street stock class. The hot ...

Re: Thank you for all the help.

Thanks Guys Ted, awesome cars! Also I'm trying to place your view... Are thse the Cascades or Olympics you can see across the water? I grew up in Sultan (Steven Pass area) and used to work in Seattle (just north of the PI building) and my first house was in Renton. The view is of Mt Pilchuck from ac...

Re: Thank you for all the help.

Update!!! So my son praticipated at our District Derby last weekend. My sons car was fast enought to take 3rd place. He was very excited about that. A ribbon was given for each heat. He finished in first position his first three heats, and then third in the finals. And what realy made me proud was h...

Re: First teardown and best way to get epoxy off tungsten??

I cannot say becuase I have not yet tried to re-use tungsten and I dont think I plan to. My cubes are epoxied in there real, real well. When I build my next car and my sons builds his we will use aluminum tape to hold in the tungsten to the bottom of the car so it will be easy to remove. I wonder if...

Re: Non-BSA open races?

I was also intersted in expanding our derby experiance to more than just the yearly pack race and district race. The Mid America Derby in May is our next goal. Then League racing for me. As far as finding local races, like sporty said check with churches, community events, I have heard walmart has a...

Re: RC Crawlers

Very cool. If I may ask, what does it cost to build one of those? birddog It depends on the level of durability and capability you want out of it. The trucks that are availible as kits go for around $300. The stock trucks are not very capable. My trucks have carbon fiber chassis and titanium links....

Re: RC Crawlers

This thread has gotten a decent amount of views but only one reply. Oh well, figured I would post this anyways. My hard work paid off with a couple of nice finishes in two of the classes at our last comp. I find it hard to be competitive in all 4 classes becuase its alot of work. http://i189.photobu...

Re: Thank you for all the help.

Thanks guys. And thank you sporty, That compliment means alot coming from you. I had my son read what you wrote and he was grinning from ear to ear. He first just wanted to build a fast car, just like the league racers cars we looked at online. Then after he finished sanding his freshly cut car he b...

Re: Mid America

I am not scared. This is my first season building pinewood derby cars and I will be sending my first three builds to Mid America, and will run my novice skills up against the pros in modified and stock class. I know that I will most likely place dead last. But it will be a learning experiance and fu...

Re: Mid America

We (my kids cars and I) all weigh in at 142 or 143 -- ironically last year our car that was 142 ran faster then the 143...Also the reason we use the exact measurement that we do is a lot of packs strictly measure ounces... and in tenths... 143.4grams is the exact amount that is below 5.1 oz (if you...
