Re: weight placement

Thanks for all the help, looks like we had a good day. I made sure to include my two boys in everything I could in this project. Other than cutting, my 1st and 2nd grader got the idea of how it worked, they picked their design, helped with sanding, lubricating and filing axles, paint, and choosing t...

Glue weights to bottom of car?

So we had the car done, we wanted to tweak the COG a little so the weight we had slotted under the car that was screwed in was cut to move an ounce back. Maybe we're getting too cute with all of this but, regardless. Now I need to glue the weight under the car, the other part of the weight is still ...

Re: Pinecar "wheel turning mandrel"

I don't have equipment here, at short notice to built that but it looks great. If we do it again next year I'll look into that. Thanks for instructions. SO, am I leaving off with the fact that I should not lightly sand the wheels? Just leave the outside as is? I'll probably just burnish the bore, an...

Re: Rocket Speed Axles?

Just realized those were not the correct rules they sent, or at least not for our council, it was from Minnesota I believe. Our rules are actually here: http://nega-bsa.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/2013-Pinewood-Derby-Rules.pdf" target="_blank Is it me or are there basically little to no...

Rocket Speed Axles?

Has anyone here every used derbychamp's Rocket Speed Axles ? Although my son and I have recently done the whole deburring and polishing at home together, certainly they are not the best quality because we used a drill. Better than nothing, but, I recently obtained access to a set of Rocket Speed Axl...

Pinecar "wheel turning mandrel"

I'm leaning towards leaving them as is, after reading a few things here but here is the question. I have in my tool kit a "Wheel Tuning Mandrel" from pine car I could mount on my dremel too. Unless my eye can not see it (my eyes arent that bad yet either) it seems the wheels I have look pr...

weight placement

Quick question on weight placement. I understand you're looking to put weight towards the back and get a center of gravity around the rear wheel more or less. My question is, do the type of weight placements matter? I can put the weight into the body of the car and then wood seal it, or grind out a ...

Re: Mold numbers and used/last year's wheels

What I did last year with my son was, eyeballing it really. We worked on the axels with just a craftsman drill strapped down to a step stool because we dont have a work bench in our garage. (Keep meaning to get to that) and we took a bunch of axels and just worked them. We then took each axel, and e...

Mold numbers and used/last year's wheels

I've got about 4 sets of stock BSA wheels here. Two extra tubes I bought at the BSA store, and the sets that came with the block kit at the den meeting. So, from what Ive read in the forum here, its best to try to match wheels with the same mold number inside. My questions. What happens if I do not ...

Re: Wheel Placement

I'm just holding the nail in my hand and spinning it with effort, and Ive tried it at an angle and straight up and down. Overall, it seems two of them just seem much smoother than the other two.
