Re: Any recommendations for car design? Help appreciated...

We did our first ladder car this year using a scroll saw and a file. Drilled a small hole in each corner of each pocket to accommodate the turn. It worked fine. I have a tool that turns a dremel into a plunge router but the scroll saw and file was the easiest for the kid to use.

Davet- 8 degrees on the DFW? Most recommendations I've seen is 1.5 and some 2? What is the benefit of such an extreme bend? And isn't that ridiculously hard to get the drift tuned in properly? We went with 2 degrees on the DFW this year just because our bender was incremented that way and it was ins...

Re: Opinions of the group

Speedster I hear you. I have no problems with any of it. Dimensions or putty in the fenders. It's all legal and I have no problem with it. You asked for the specs and I was just re-iterating what I saw, not complaining about it, and the 3/8" was a visual estimation from across the room. But the...

Re: Opinions of the group

Thanks for the input guys. I'll try to address your issues. Davet- I understand fast cars can happen. The first year we built a car for our pack event, we built it backwards, using fishing sinkers for weight and I tuned it on my kitchen table no canting, no toeing, just a straight running door stop....

Greeting fellow PWD junkies. I have a question that I'd like some input on because as someone involved I don't trust my own bias. We just did our district race yesterday and my son did exactly as expected and as we've done in years past, 2nd in his group. We don't go to districts with the expectatio...

Re: Are you ridiculed on the track? Looked at, and suspected

Absolutely. 2 years ago was the first time that either me or my son had ever touched a PWD car. We were so clueless that we built the car backwards with the short side to the front. But I read some books, watched some videos and apparently did a good enough job with wheel and axle prep and weighting...

Weighting and center of gravity on a short track vs. longer

Greetings, this is my first posting so bear with me. I am relatively new to pinewood. This is my third year with my oldest son and first with my youngest. Call it beginners luck but we managed to win Fastest of the Pack for a fairly large and fairly competitive rural pack, right out of the gate agai...
