Re: How to keep eBay cars out of your race

If it is true a person buys a car and wins the race my heart goes out to that person. People remember the Pinewood Derby for ever and that person now has to live with it the rest of their life. That's Gotta Hurt. This is truth. The racing part of Pinewood Derby is only a fraction of the enjoyment. ...

Re: How to keep eBay cars out of your race

There's a parent/kid in my son's Pack who I am almost certain gets their cars from some for-hire builder. I don't have enough proof to nail them, though, so I haven't made a fuss. That would definitely be ugly if it came to it. I almost wonder if it would be worth having both adult and scout affirm,...

Re: Are 2009 wheel bores on an angle

Speedster and Vk, I don't know how the BSA wheels are mold injected for sure. How ever check out Max V's news letter On the making of his Max V wheels. May 5th 2017 news letter! There is some good info along with photos to check out. And it's probably close to how the BSA wheels are mold injected a...

Re: Are 2009 wheel bores on an angle

VK, I hope you're right. That's what I'm counting on. We are not allowed to run canted wheels and the wheels seem to always go to the axle head instead of the car body. That is exactly what I want to happen. The wheels will sit "Straight up and Down" per our rules. I'm assuming the 3 "dots" have so...

Re: Are 2009 wheel bores on an angle

Hodges Hobby House shows pictures of the 2009 wheel and says there is a "Bore Squish", Larger in the center and smaller on the ends. I can't tell when I polish the bores. Are the ends exactly the same size? More often then not, when setting up a car to rail ride, the rear wheels will migrate to the...

Re: Toledo Walleye Pinewood Derby

The Toledo Walleye, a professional ice Hockey team, is having a Pinewood Derby for the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts on March 24, 2018. It will be held at the Huntington Center where the Walleye holds their games. They have invited many Scout Councils and The Girl Scouts of Western Ohio. That has got ...

Re: Weighted Wheels

"Wheel Weights" made for Pinewood Derby don't attach to the wheels. They attach to the side of the body and take up the space in the void of the wheel, without actually touching any of the moving surfaces. Thus you get the advantageous weight location, and the aero advantage from blocking air inside...

Re: Interesting Race-Girl Scouts-Longish story. Laser Gate Issues?

Race#67 I feel that the laser gate isn't a true time due to that the first car that breaks the beam starts the time. I feel that once's the car's are release from the gate the timer is started. We use GPRM and we throw out the worst heat time. Some people like to use the laser gate and some don't. ...

Re: Interesting Race-Girl Scouts-Longish story. Laser Gate Issues?

Wow, not much time at the moment, so I can't think too hard on it, but those time variations seem WAY out of spec from what I'd expect. In pinewood derby, a few hundredths of a second is enough to put you a car length in front of somebody else. We're seeing variations of 3-tenths of a second. Someth...

Re: 2017 Ford Fast Track Races

Did I mention how efficient Randy Lisano is? He has already posted pictures of all the beautiful cars. What a guy. Ford, the Girl Scouts of America, and so many others owe him so much. Thanks Randy. It was great to meet you. Very cool. Y'all have been corresponding digitally for a long time, it's c...

Re: Auto-start gate for Freedom Track

I've had a couple of different solenoid gate setups on my Freedom track. The DIY one stopped working reliably after awhile. I didn't want to muck with the circuit, so I ended up switching to a commercial solution. http://derbytalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=7948&start=15#p77292 http://derbytalk.com/v...

Auto-start gate for Freedom Track

Our Pack has a 4-lane Microwizard Aluminum track. One thing that's always been a hassle is the start gate, as it tends to get wonky during races, and there are issues with it not contacting the timer switch properly when closed, that requires last minute bending of little metal switch levers. Ideall...

Whoo! Is that Optimus Prime?

Concur with Speedster and BR. Run it, but take yourself out of the winners' circle.

Re: Ford Fast Track Racers - Phoenix Event

I stumbled upon this Phoenix event in a web search. This is not part of 8 city race series that Ford is doing but the girls will be building and racing cars. Sounds like a pretty cool event. http://www.girlscoutsaz.org/content/girlscoutsaz/en/sf-events-repository/2017/ford-fast-track-racers---part-...

Re: 2017 Ford Fast Track Races

Would be nice if they expanded this to a Nation-wide thing on a local level with open participation (races hosted at car dealerships?)...and then Ford could host a big National championship or something. :) Also, yeah, those rules...holding my nose here. Here's to hoping they actually run the final ...
