Re: Digital Caliper
Thanks for posting the coupon FS. I'd been meaning to pick one up as they're typically $17-19, but this is a great coupon. I just ran down to the nearby HFT and got the last one that provided fractional readings. It was marked down to $20 from the normal $30 price and the girl had to do a double tak...

Re: My clone (nellie 2) "balsa Fenders"
There's no doubt that having fenders is not going to be a silver bullet. We ran a long wheel based car in the beginner class at the nationals that went up against full fendered cars and won but was also beat by cars that had front and rear fenders. Like others have said, this is probably one of the ...

Re: Can you stain balsa wood?
Seth, We'd only done 2 rain gutter regatta races, and Jr. got 2nd this year. I had read the same about using a stain to seal the boat. I don't think you need to use the stain and can get by with painting it and then adding a clear coat to seal it. We used a polymer stain both times and on this last ...

Re: .03 Teflon vs. nail head
I was curious of this as well a while back as I had put some of the teflon like material on the bodies where the hub could potentially come in contact. Maybe it's not that scientific of a test but I basically spun the wheel when it was resting on the axle head and then in comparison with it in conta...

Re: My clone (nellie 2) "balsa Fenders"
Also it's worth noting that you'll see that Dale added a small notch on the backside of his fenders so the wheels can be measured with a caliper. I understand that one of his early attempts at racing with the full fenders caused some problems as he had to remove a wheel for measurement purposes befo...

Re: Positive or Negative Camber for DFW
Our car was significantly louder than faster cars on the track regardless of toe-in adjustments. There is the possibility that you experienced what we did where the angle of the camber was enough that the wheel actually rode on the outer beads of the wheel. That'll make a fair amount of racket.

That's some good info Stan. I'd be curious to see if you need to continue to use 2 strips as you progress through to the next stages of 3 microns and 1 micron.

Re: "Beat the Cubmaster Race"
I can see where you're coming from birddog regarding the consolation prize cause now I think about it, I wouldn't put it past some of the parents to then purposely make that their goal. Create a very slow car with the intention of at least winning the cubmaster race.

Re: "Beat the Cubmaster Race"
I really like Stan's idea. At our last cub scout race I was standing at the table and looking the cars over and this little Tiger comes along and asks 'whatcha look'n at?'. I said I was just admiring the cars. He then asks if I'd like to see his so I'm like sure, let's take a look. He points it out ...

Re: Positive or Negative Camber for DFW
Thanks for responding Stan. Unfortunately it's still not clear...what do you mean by 'sliding distance'? Do you mean that the lower part of the wheel makes contact sooner with the rail versus negative camber and contacting with the upper part of the wheel? I was trying to visually figure out how the...

Positive or Negative Camber for DFW
In past years we always ran a negative camber for the DFW, but I've seen in several posts on various boards that actually it should be a positive camber. I've read that the thinking is that there's less contact surface against the center rail as well as the wheel will migrate out to the axle head an...

Seth, Why did you dial in more drift on Jr.'s car? Was the COM the same for all 3 cars? We've typically dialed in 2-2.5" of drift, but I was reading where some posts said that as the COM became more agressive you should dial in more drift (?). It seems to make sense but I don't have a track to ...

Re: Interested in feedback on some Harbor Freight tools
Thought I'd provide a quick reply on this topic as I scored one of the rigid oscillating sanders off of craigslist. It was still a little dusty but didn't show much wear and the spindles looked like they hadn't be used. Overall not bad and for not much more than what the basic belt sander from Harbo...

Re: Mid America, Feed Back for gregg.
I agree Paul, we got our items yesterday as well and it was pretty exciting. The cars looked like they were in great shape. I let my son open the 2nd box with all of the door prizes and we were surprised when he pulled out the second trophy for being in the top 12. I thought they were only giving th...

Re: Pink Pig Porsche 917/20
As someone who's a big Porsche fan and event attended the Rennsport Reunion at Laguna Seca 2 yrs ago, this is absolutely fabulous. I love the 917's and it was a blast to see the real ones on track. The proportions look great and I love the intake/fan details on the engine (even the color looks like ...
