Re: Any value in this graphite packing technique?

We use a 50/50 mix of graphite and 91% only to insure full graphite coverage on axle and inside wheel hub. Let dry out for 24hrs. Hand spin then, test run on track. Add race graphite when ready to race.

Re: How do you keep / get graphite off the paint job??

A good paint job. A good sealer/top coat. Compound, then wax will put a protective finish on the car. When graphite does get on the car, use cooking oil to get off. Small amount on a rag and wipe it off until all gone. It will clean off dry to the touch with a good shine.

Re: Outlawed Parts

The concept of Pinewood Derby is about the Scout and parent working together to build the car.

Not buying parts or a car to race.

Work with what you have in a kit or buy extra kits from The Boy Scouts.

Working together and pride in what the two of you built will go a long way in your sons life.

Re: Taking heat for last yrs win.....What to do?

Both of you need to keep your heads up. You are doing the right thing.

The parent/Scout who puts out the extra efforts reap the rewards.

His mine is a open book that is willing to learn from you.

Re: Making the wood stronger

Minwax makes a wood hardener product that's works well.
It adds very little to no weight.
It's a very thin resin that sands smooth.

Hi-Liter markers are the best way to go without adding any weight.

Re: baked derby blocks ????

We do all of our blocks. HHeavy blocks drop + - 20 grams(sap) light blocks drop around 10 grams.
Mark/layout first.
Bake 325 deg. for 2hrs.
Put in zip-lock bag affter cool down in oven.
We get below 1/2 oz then think about adding weight.
Seal and paint.

Re: Wheel size

I would tend to think that a larger and lighter wheel would be a slight advantage. Due to the fact of less turning, thus less use of graphite.
