Re: Any success with "composite filled" axle bores?

I was wondering the same Stan. I milled my slots on the Bridgeport and installed 3/32 ID brass tubes to put the axles in, then filled the slots with an epoxy/micro balloon mix. This ensured the slots were true. However, I really questioned my reasoning when I bent the axles and then aligned them by ...

Re: New guy intro...

Well last night was the race. Much different than as it was 30 years ago! Twin aluminum tracks, video boards, sound system. It was really cool. The kids were a bit overwhelmed. They ran two races with about 50 cars in the "sparks" division for K thru second grade. They ran 4 cars per race ...

Re: New guy intro...

Yea, I was kinda shocked as well. However I guess after turn in the leaders are who place the cars on the track and handle the cars, which was the case at some races back in my scouting days. This being an Awana race, there are quite a few cars, possibly close to 200. I am told they run preliminarie...

Re: New guy intro...

Well the kids finished their cars and we turned them in for impound. They had to turn in the cars Tuesday for racing on Sunday. I did not know this until recently, thought we had until Sunday to finish the cars! So the test track and alignment with Stan's weight bias did not happen. I did the tuning...

Re: New guy intro...

We have been beavering away on our cars almost every night for a little bit. Getting close. The advent of print your own decal paper is a real advantage. We had fun finding images for my sons racer. He picked them all out and then we sized and printed them. The newer laser paper is easy to work with...

Re: New guy intro...

And here are a couple shots of the second (although it seems like third due to my brother being my derby mentor) generation at work. They are no strangers to my shop, and have had their own areas to work in down there already. They have however kind of taken over with their car projects scattered ab...

Re: New guy intro...

Thanks for the kind words guys. I forgot how many great memories these little wooden cars held for me. I talked my brother into digging out his cars (which I remember looking at as a kid and counting the days until I could join scouts to be in the derby!). He dug out his cars and took a picture for ...

Re: Single handle drill bit holder recomendation?

I think you are asking about for a pin vice to use along with your drilling guide? Something like this?

Intro & story of 2014 race, updated with hub question

Hello, I found this site recently while researching with my kids for their first race. Quite a bit of nostalgia for me... I raced as a cub for my first (and only) time back in 1982 and won my den, pack, district and Council (Allegheny Trials Council at Century III Mall.) My older brother raced in th...
