reuse axles or wheels?

My son just had his race, took 4th. Right before he races he drops his car on the ground, I almost screamed. Anyways, his car ran pretty good compared to others. After the races I looked at his car because I didn't understand why it wasn't faster. Sure enough, right rear tire was rubbing against the...

Re: Help moving com back

He is great when he doesn't win, last year. There were 2 boys that melted down after they didn't win the first or second race. My son this year is all about the best in show. He wants a tank car with a special gun on top. We are adding 2 extra wheels (not touching anything of course) on either side ...

Re: Help moving com back

I having issues with a pic, but I can tell you that I routed out sections for wieghts before and after the axle and some farther ahead. Do I take weight towards the front or middle? Because I'm trying to keep the weights in the rear. But it sounds like I will have to add some to towards the front to...

Help moving com back

I've read the post about weight placement and am still trying to figure things out. Where's my situation, My son picked the design so I'm going with what he wants, not very aerodynamic. But, I've gotten the block down to 3.2 oz with an extended wheel base. Not including glue or paint. So we have som...

Axles or Wheels?

I'm under a big time issue and need some thoughts. If you only had time to prep the axles or the wheels, which one would you do? I'm thinking axles, for a standard bsa race

Re: faster start on old railless track

We haven't starting building yet. We get it on Friday. He's more interested in the shape and I'm more interested in speed. Last year we rode with bent axles, and probably this year too. We were aligning the rears first, just rolling on a flat surface and making sure the wheels migrate out, nothing f...

faster start on old railless track

This is my son's second race and need some more speed info. We haven't started building yet Here's last year, Track is an ancient wood track with no rails, only sides to keep cars in their lanes. Car was at 5 oz. with canted wheels and extended wheel base in a thinned body style. Axles were polished...

Re: post race advice for next year

The wheels say maximum velocity on the outside and the inside with the mold number. I did find the track's age and design funny comparing it to every other track out there. I don't know much about my sons pack. This is his first year and so far I'm not that impressed about the amount/or lack of, inf...

Re: post race advice for next year

The kit they gave us was from maximum velocity in a ziplok bag so they bought in bulk. I found out that they gave everyone speed axles because I think there are alot of single moms in our pack and wanted to help keep things even as possible. Wheels were also from maximum velocity with mold numbers o...

Re: post race advice for next year

Thanks guys This is a cub scout pack I only did a lite polishing of the axles because they didn't have burr or crimp marks on them, that is what they gave us. But I still ran 1500 grit paper on them and some general rubbing compound that you would use on cars. The wheels, I was only allowed to smoot...

post race advice for next year

So my son had his first race, took 4 or 5 from what I can tell out of 13 so not bad. I'm trying to figure out how to make next year better. Here is how the car was set up. About 2.5 oz in rear, standard block about 1/2 inch thick. Extended wheelbase. Canted wheels, three wheeler. The track was an ol...

Re: Car setup for wood track, no center rail

From what I can tell from pics of the track, it's a six car track where each car has it's own side rails, so there should be no touching of any cars, there would be less of a chance of the rear rubbing? What can I do to be fast off the line. On the one car we've built, we made 3 because he couldn't ...

Car setup for wood track, no center rail

This is my son's first derby and he's really excited. I've read all the tips through the forums, weight in back, thin body, work on axels and wheels. I just found out that the track his pack uses is all wood with no center rail, just side rails. What would be the best way to set his car up? Run as s...
