District results...
After 4 years of not placing higher than 3rd in our District race, I found DerbyTalk. After finding DerbyTalk, and all of the great folks, advice, & info, we managed the 1 2 sweep this year!! The best part was running the previous 4 year, 1st & 2nd sweeper, in the first race, and beating him...

This is how we plan on doing our new district build in the next couple of nights, for our first try using this method.
Excellent info.

Re: Our Pack Race Re-cap. The Good, the Bad, & the Ugly....
Thinking about it a little more, I think the only thing that might have helped is if you would have stopped the racing earlier and called the kid out when he was throwing the stuff on the track. Then I would have likely shut down the open racing as soon as they would not stay in line. Sounds like y...

Re: Our Pack Race Re-cap. The Good, the Bad, & the Ugly....
Aside from the racing, this how the rest of the evening went... Race is scheduled to be held from 6pm-8:30pm, with car registration starting at 5:30pm. In addition to the pwd race, it was decided that it would be a good idea to also hold the Blue & Gold banquet, at the same venue/time. Didn't so...

Our cars stay 100% complete and get displayed. No reason really, but race ready at any time.

Re: Our Pack Race Re-cap. The Good, the Bad, & the Ugly....
Thanks! There were only two cars who had issues making it down the track. One was way too heavy behind the rear wheels, and ended up having to be run backwards to compete, the other was built for looks (he got there, just slow). All of the cars in the pics above, made it to the finish line with no i...

Our Pack Race Re-cap. The Good, the Bad, & the Ugly....
Going to break this up into two parts. Racing results, then....the rest to follow (most fubar scouting event that I've ever attended), lol. *Timing system refused to work (again this year), so it was tigers/wolves racing together with a run in each lane, the same with bears/webelos. Then run off's o...

Re: Thanks all, District results
Screw that guy, as he's a complete [censored]. As I've said before, and say every year, "A 100% Scout built car is just as sad as a 100% Dad built car". IMO, anyone who thinks different, has no concept of what the pwd is all about. A Dad knows his Scouts abilities and short-comings. With t...

Re: Shop ideas
You all are high tech, lol.
My biggest issue was getting the pieces loose, then mixed up. Came up with this out of frustration, a few sets of axles back. Been a game changer for me, lol.

Wheels & axle prep up next....I know I could've been more "main-stream", but I just couldn't shake having some "show" in it as well, lol. Hopefully I found a good medium! http://i63.tinypic.com/16k12xf.jpg http://i65.tinypic.com/2lkz0og.jpg http://i66.tinypic.com/2cp9ggk.jpg ...

Re: First attempt at a ladder chassis...
Ok, so for now, I put the stock wheelbase on the back burner, and this is attempt #2. Front weight pocket is still made tight for 2 rows, but early testing showed that the "extra" weight will need to be in the next pocket forward to get a 15g DFW weight (12g if all weight stays in the rear...

Re: Straight running car
Agreed on both Stan. This was just a first step since it was all sitting there in front of me at the moment. Next try, will be with a 4 wheel car and weighted. Probably with the ladder car that I'm attempting to build, once the weights come in.

Re: Straight running car
IF we were allowed to run bent axles, this is how we would've set up our straight runner (minus the steer) for our center-less track. Pay no attention to the car, lol. It has box fresh axles and wheels, as this was just an exercise to personally see the effect of negative front cant/straight rear wh...
