I've found up to 2500 pretty easy local at auto parts stores, 3000 in a few places. I ended up ordering some finer paper from Amazon Variety pack of traditional wet/dry paper - 3000, 5000, 7000: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SD1A0J4?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00 I ...

Re: First build (in 40 years) - The Batmobile
The Batmobile cars look amazing iflytii! Happy to here that your fenders worked out okay! Thanks! We were sweating it a little on the fenders but they ended up working great. Cool boxes. Good luck! And all other things being equal, more weight in the rear (.5 oz) will win every time. Scrollsawer I ...

Re: Fender Notch's.
We ran our cars at the test night last night and didn't have any issues with the fenders rubbing. Here is a photo of the under side: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v521/iflytii/Pinewood%20Derby%202016/Weights%20Compared_zpsc5ltwdar.jpg Probably could have just gotten away with either notching or ...

Re: Axle prep...
What a great resource! Thanks for posting this! Our rules state you can remove material defects and sand/polish but we can not materially change the shape of either the wheels or axles. So we filed ours square, but I sure like that angled head... Are you using water in your sanding steps, or a chemi...

Re: First build (in 40 years) - The Batmobile
Those are two very cool Batmobiles! Love the 'black matte' vinyl car. Looking good...Can't wait to see how they'll do! Keep us posted! Scrollsawer Thanks! I have to hold my head in shame as Lucas' car beat mine at the practice test and tune tonight... :-P Got me by about a 1/2 a car length, which I...

Re: 3D Printed Mustang
Pretty cool. However, it just isn't the same as working the wood to build a car. It's very cool. And it's the technology that will revolutionize customized production. Anyone ever shove a pine block into a 5-axis CNC machine? I have a 3-axis machine I made that we considered briefly using for the b...

Re: First build (in 40 years) - The Batmobile
Looking good. I agree that shiny black can be pretty cool by itself! Thanks! Ended up leaving them black as we simply ran out of time to feel good about trying to shoot the chrome and get the cars stickered up. Lesson learned with paint choices. Never thought I'd see a Pinewood Derby car relaxing i...

Re: Fender Notch's.
We haven't run ours yet so I'm interested in this too! We notched them about 1/8 flush out from the bottom, and then tapered them the rest of the way. Just using the ol' calibrated eye ball it looks like the first thing that will touch will be the wheel, but as stated this has not been on a track yet...

Re: First build (in 40 years) - The Batmobile
Both cars are black but I grossly underestimated the time it takes Testers enamel to dry! Lucas' car will be fine but I don't think I'll be able to do the final chrome finish on mine, which is fine because the black looks pretty good IMO. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v521/iflytii/Pinewood%20Der...

Re: PWD box
That's a nice setup! My son and I started a box for slot cars and were thinking of doing the same for the PWD cars. Our time of occupying the kitchen/breakfast bar is coming to an end and we need to become more mobile.
